Sometimes you just want to know your options right? It isn't that you are looking for a big change, but you want to test the waters and see what is out there. I tend to do this often when decorating my own home. I often have an inspiration but don't want to completely change my decorating to fit my random ideas — many of which are better in theory than practice.
When I found a pair of brass lamps for a client, I knew I had to test them out in my own home. However, the lamps came with a pretty bold zebra print shade, something that I thought wouldn't necessarily go with my bedroom. So I challenged myself to see if I could style a bedside vignette that took advantage of the zebra shade by only shopping my own home . . .
Rather than fight with the zebra shade, I decided to embrace its comical nature and create a vignette that was humorous and fun. The gorilla portrait along with the sumo figurine and the Jonathan Adler vase play up the humor while the yellow book and the purple and yellow flowers add a nice pop of color. Overall, the bedside vignette was a play on whimsy that made me smile.
Since the lamps were never intended to stay, I need to put back together the bedside table and decided to take the opportunity to jazz up my existing vignette. I pulled some vintage trophies, books, and a newly acquired drawing to create a new vignette that was the opposite of the first — quite, elegant, and reserved. Keep reading to see the second vignette!
I completed the vignette with a small bouquet of freesia. I am loving the new look so much that I have postponed buying new bedside tables! Thanks to a little creative playing, I was able to save myself some money.
