Bedroom Inspiration Photo Textured, Jail Cell Chic

Get the Look: Jail Cell Chic

In the portfolio of French photographer Pierre-Jean Verger, I discovered this bedroom, which I can't help but describe as "jail cell chic." The concrete walls play a major part in the room's prison-like appearance. If yours are drywall, you can get the look without mixing any cement by ordering a roll of Concrete Wall Wallpaper ($150) from Norwegian photographer Tom Haga. Aside from the walls, textural, fragmented, cryptic, and crumpled elements contribute to the overall penitentiary-style look. I can't help but get the feeling that the person who lives here is very tortured.

The bedside shag rug is a key furnishing in this room. Not only does it have that torn, textural look we're after, but it could very well also be something a convict might weave together in his spare time. You can get the look with Urban Outfitters Mixed Media Shag Rug ($28). Meanwhile, the Umbra Ballona Stool ($210), made from more than 500 tied balloons, has a similar DIY look to it, but the sharp crisscrossing of the rubber pieces gives it an angst-ridden effect.

Artist Catalina Viejo's Letter to the Ones We've Lost Collage ($350) is a cryptic art piece that will add some mystery to the walls. Meanwhile, the Sare Wall Sconce ($580) and the Essey Bin Bin Wastebasket ($54) have a crumpled effect — rough around the edges as I'd expect any inmate to be.
