CasaSugar Community member Sourcherries recently wrote to me saying, "Hi Casa, I just found a peek into Alice Waters' kitchen on FitSugar, and I am totally looking for a butcher block like the one she has . . . only in my budget. Haha. Any ideas where I can look? I've also read John Boos' name mentioned on a few sites. Thanks!"

I love Alice's table! Great pick. John Boos & Co., as you mentioned, is the preeminent brand. While some Boos butcher block tables tend to be a bit pricey (this one for instance is $1,123), the brand does offer a wide range of items and price points. You can also find some sale items here and there, such as on Overstock.com and Amazon.com. A thriftier option is to purchase just the Boos butcher block itself and set it on top of a more affordable table, or one you already own.
You might also consider hiring a craftsman to build you a butcher block table. Or, eBay, Craigslist, antique fairs, and flea markets are more likely places to find one — just make sure to sanitize it properly.
And if you do decide to spend more than budgeted, you can rest assured that your purchase is a good investment; butcher block tables last for generations!
Hope this helps!
