Absolutely Beautiful Things, the blog of Brisbane, Australia-based interior designer Anna Spiro, has long been one of my favorite blogs — and I'm not alone! Anna writes about the goings-on of her design business and her Brisbane-based store, Black & Spiro, and shares the absolutely beautiful things she loves — usually colorful, feminine, and maximalist. I've long wished for the chance to visit her store; I know I won't go home empty handed. Since it's quite the trek from San Francisco, I'm thrilled that she has opened her much-anticipated, eponymous online store, Absolutely Beautiful Things!
About the launch, she writes, "First and foremost I am a designer and I really wanted that to be reflected in our online store. I wanted to create something which was different and exciting. . . . In an attempt to make this succeed I thought it would be wonderful to present a series of seasonal vignettes, which will showcase special things I have either found or had custom made. Items for sale will be put together in a room scene/vignette, and basically each product, which is for sale, will have a number on it."
As you can see, Anna's first vignette, which she calls the Winter look, is stunning! She has a mix of vintage, one-of-a-kind, and new items. I was disappointed that her vintage kilim cushion (#5) sold out pretty immediately — I love it! But there's still plenty of gorgeous things available. One of my favorite pieces is the Chevron Drum Stool ($658), a multicolored, chevron-patterned ceramic drum stool in a hexagonal shape; it's 100 percent my style.
Anna's concept of staging a vignette for her online store is a wonderfully successful one! Seeing everything arranged is really inspiring, and it's really something you usually only see online from catalog retailers.
