Show Me Your Casa!

Have you done any decorating in your home lately?

Have you done any decorating in your home lately? Picked up a new Damien Hirst painting? Unearthed a vintage rug in your attic? Bought a groovy coffee table for your living room? Whatever it is, I want to see it!

Show off all of your shots of your home, both interior and exterior, in my group Su Casa, where readers can share snapshots and stories related to home decorating, crafts, organizing, and gardening. A Su Casa post could be anything from a photo of a loved one's home to a before-and-after project you've been working on. Think of it as a lookbook for home style. If I see something I like in Su Casa, I might ask you if I can feature it on CasaSugar.

Joyful Hooks For Organizing Necklaces

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member skeltershelter from the Lovely Little Vignettes group: A dresser adorned with pretty little jewelry boxes is all well and good, but when the only thing you wear is necklaces, where does that leave you?

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member skeltershelter from the Lovely Little Vignettes group:

A dresser adorned with pretty little jewelry boxes is all well and good, but when the only thing you wear is necklaces, where does that leave you? Hanging them is the only way to keep them from getting tangled, so my answer was thumb tacks. Extremely utilitarian but not particularly attractive. When I moved to this apartment though, I rounded up three hooks that were in various spots throughout my old house and grouped them next to my dresser. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out!

I don't remember where I got these hooks. I'm fairly certain I didn't buy them at the same time, and I'm pretty sure I didn't get them all at the same place. But when I was hanging them this time I noticed the tags on the back and they are all designed by a favorite blogger of mine Oh Joy! How random is that?

Color Ideas For Shared Boy/Girl Bedrooms

After reading Nate Berkus's resources for color inspiration, CasaSugar Community member cubamarsh wrote, "I have five-year-old boy/girl twins.

After reading Nate Berkus's resources for color inspiration, CasaSugar Community member cubamarsh wrote, "I have five-year-old boy/girl twins. They have to sleep in the same bedroom for the time being. Any suggestions how to decorate/PAINT especially for both?" I made some of my own suggestions with 10 ideas for gender neutral children's rooms, but I thought I'll poll all of you for your thoughts as well on Facebook. We got a great response with so many hues I'd never thought of, so I'm really excited to share these color ideas with you!

  • "A light metallic gray or white and orange." — Colette O.
  • "Definitely turquoise and white, but I guess it depends on the age." Katrín S.
  • "I have always thought navy blue and a lavender - on the boys side emphasize the navy and the girl the lavender." — Heidi W.
  • "Blue walls! Both my kids' rooms (5-year-old son, nursery for 19-mo-old daughter) are a pale blue color. They aren't exactly the same shade but they both work. As for décor, kelly green would be a good accent color that is good for both sexes. You could do more gender-specific coverlets on each bed made from cool fabrics, and then get one more coordinating gender-neutral one and tie it all together." — Eliza M.
  • "Sage green is a good gender-neutral color." — Julie K.
  • "Keep the walls neutral. Curtains, sheets, pillows and decorations with indigo and orange." — Evelyn S.
  • "Aqua blue!" — Marissa J.
  • "Navy and yellow, or nautical." — Kelly S

A Summery Starfish Idea

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member designingmainstreet from the Su Casa group:

Our front door got a summery accessory this morning, which I made last night in about 10 minutes. All you need are some starfish and string! To begin, I created a loop with four long strings, hanging below a knot. Then I wrapped the string around one of the starfish arms and tied a knot in the back. Then I continued to wrap the string around until the desired length was achieved and finished it with another knot. You can see the full story on my blog.

DIY: Book-Wrapped Trophy Mount

Over a year and a half ago, I ordered a Styrofoam taxidermy mount with the intention of finishing it in some fun, unexpected way.

Over a year and a half ago, I ordered a Styrofoam taxidermy mount with the intention of finishing it in some fun, unexpected way. Then the mount sat in my garage for over a year while I attended to other projects. Just a few months ago, I finally got around to finishing the mount. If you admire the look of the trophy heads you've seen everywhere from Anthropologie to Neiman Marcus, but don't want to spend upwards of $600 on something that may be a trend, you can DIY your own for under $50. Here's how.

What You'll Need:

  • Styrofoam Deer Mount like this one (you can order other animal shapes, but they're often a lot more expensive). While this one is listed at $40, I found one on sale for $12, so shop around.
  • Mod Podge
  • Thin paper for covering the head (college readers, dictionaries, and other large books work well)
  • Paintbrush
  • Branches
  • Swiss army or whittling knife
  • Paint
  • Masking Tape
  • Newspaper

Cool Idea: A Branch Bowl Chandelier

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member stephaniepoli from the Su Casa group: This is our closet.

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member stephaniepoli from the Su Casa group:

This is our closet. Can you guess what's hanging over the light? Yep. It's a bowl.

I found it some time ago at HomeGoods. This went from a black metal fruit bowl to a white, woodsy chandelier. It's a simple upgrade, and it really adds character to our modern woodland bedroom. For the full how-to, visit my blog Love&Lace.
