I spotted this project on Craft and thought it would be perfect for Renewal month. Give new purpose to mismatched teacups you have laying around or that you've found at yard sales by turning them into candles. You can use them in your own home or as a thoughtful DIY gift for your friends.
To get the supply list and learn the steps, read more.
Supplies:
- Teacups
- A big block of wax
- A double boiler
- A color agent (crayon will do) and scent, optional
- Wicks
- Chopsticks
Here's how:
- Collect teacups.
- Melt about 2 lbs. of wax at a time in your double boiler.
- When the wax melts, add color and scent, if you want.
- Pour about 1/2 of the wax into the cup.
- Wait five minutes, then add the wicks and hold them in place between chopsticks laid across the cup.
- After 45 minutes, pour in more melted wax.
- Let dry, and voilà!

Hoenstly, my mom would go nuts for these!
1MP told me her friend had a bridal shower where teacup candles were given as favors. According to my grandmother ,it was traditional for people to give you a teacup when you got engaged (she let me choose one of hers), so I think maybe that was related to the bridal shower thing.
2Funky...
3Very cute!!
And I love the idea of teacup candles as favors for a bridal shower, Vunder.
4Wow! I love this idea!
5That's so cute! CasaSugar, approximately how much did it cost you to buy all the materials for this project?
6love the idea
7agreeing with emalove:
this would be a great bridal shower memento!
8My grandmother would probably be really happy if I gave her one, and I would really be happy to make one for her, but I'd never put that in my house.
9Sorry, I don't like this. I love teacups, and I think this is a waste of darling teacups. JMHO.
10I think it is a neat idea.
11I think it's a great way to recycle an otherwise un-used tea cup.
12We were left with my husband's grandmother's old-fashioned china so I broke it all up and made a mosaic mirror with it. Now we have a keepsake instead of a pile of plates that would never get used (don't worry - it wasn't worth much - I checked!!)
Very cool! I would love to make my own candles.
13I went to a bridal shower and everyone received a teacup candle as a gift as well. I love it
14I used to make those in High School!
I recommend a little pam or something in the teacup before the wax, to make eventual removal of the candle (after it's burned - so you can make another one!) easier.
15Wow! This is my project! It's so exciting to see it on Casa Sugar!!!
