Born in Judibana, Venezuela, in 1961, photographer Ron van Dongen was raised in Warmond, The Netherlands. After moving to the US's West Coast, he studied photography at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco and currently resides in Portland, Oregon. While he's photographed flora, fauna, and the human form, my favorite photographs of his are by far those of flora. His lovely meditations on singular blooms and extreme close-up shots of vegetables make you reconsider the meaning of these humble plants.
To see a gallery of his work, and to find out about his latest book, just read more.
Ron's book Bloom was published by Chronicle Books last Winter and features stunning duotone floral photography that captures the stunning shapes of flowers both simple and exotic.

I LOVE some of these! Simple and eye-catching at the same time.
