Leah Hennen and her husband Nick recently repainted their bedroom a rich, chocolate brown.
Leah writes,
So we finally screwed up the courage to paint our bedroom dark brown. (And when I say "we" and "paint," I of course mean Nick. Much as I love to choose paint colors, lately the novelty of actually laboring to put them on the walls has lost its allure. So thank you, honey—you're the best!) We hemmed and hawed about the actual shade of brown for about a year, with various paint chips taped up on the wall and big brown swatch painted in the corner. Finally, Nick made an executive decision and choose Benjamin Moore's Chocolate Sundae (over the even darker, cooler Bittersweet Chocolate that I had been angling for). I think he was right—the color is deep and luscious, but warm. Although the room faces north, it gets tons of light from a big corner window and a French door, so I wasn't worried about it being too dark. Crisp white trim, bedding, and a large bookshelf, plus mirrored accents around the room help offset the deep color.

I love that Leah sourced the furniture and linens from a variety of easy-to-find and easy-on-the-budget sources, such as flea markets, Ikea, Craigslist, and Ebay, among others. The room looks amazing, and the chocolate brown really brings out the crsip white of the linens and the brilliant blues in her ceramics. 1I love the chocolate color. Very pretty!!!
Lately I have been obsessed with walls painted grey but I live in a dark apartment and cant paint my walls
2I love rich, warm colors...it makes a room feel so cozy. This room looks great!
3Im glad you added blue accents. I love rich browns and blue together. Gorgeous combo
4We painted our master this color at first, then I freaked out and made us paint it white again.
This looks great. It felt too claustrophobic to me.
5Okay, I did NOT type all of those smilies! I don't know where any of them came from. That's really weird.
6red- the site where freaking out for a little bit with all the smilies. There were a whole bunch on Fit
7awe soo prettY! can i stay over!?!
8gorgeous!
9OOOOw gorgeous!
10It's so pretty! I love the antique light fixtures, they're so unique and interesting. And the kitty isn't bad either.
11looks amazing! every touch is so unique. my fiance and i are making preparations to move from our furnished campus housing to a completely unfurnished apt, and i really wish he would be a little more flexible in his style...maybe then we could emulate something like this look!! haha
12That cat is scaring me!
13I really love that chest at the foot of the bed. I want one.
The room looks really cozy. I want a bedroom like that!
14looks so comfy
15This room is interesting. Nothing really matches, but yet it somehow all works. I like the bedding and the mirror together, but the orange/yellow lights is a stark contrast in color and style. Then the wood against the white trim and window...
I don't know WHY I like this, but I do!
16What a nice looking bedroom. We used a very similar dark chocolate brown paint on the walls in our living room. We decided to use it for that room instead of the bedroom (our bedroom will be sort of modern/asian themed). But our living room has the dark chocolate brown walls, bright red couches and large framed pictures on the walls, with 5 perfectly placed lamps to make the lighting just right. Turned out great!!
Chocolate brown is an amazing color to use on the walls as long as you have good light so it doesn't make it too dark and enclosed.
17Love it! It almost looks like you have leather walls (which sounds weird) but I like the look here. Makes me want to go and paint something...
18I really like the look of this room-well done
19I love it!!!
Awww the kitty.
20I love the color and have wanted to do the same to my bedroom but wasn't sure of the outcome. Now it is a definite must!
21I painted my bedroom brown a while ago.
22I have moved about 4 times since then and whenever I paint my room I go to that brown. It is very dark and quiet at night but when the sun comes in and hits it, bam! Warm, luxurious, caramel brown.
I haven't found another color which is so cool and calms me so much.
And I'm a stresser, ya'll.
