I have had a real tree all my life... now that I have my own house we do artificial ... Im just not into the needles everywhere and bugs in the house..lol but still its look gorgeous.

We have a tradition of going out to the tree farm to tag our tree the day after Thanksgiving. Its fun and actually very good for the environment, the constant growth and replacement of trees puts more Oxygen in the air!

But actually there are upsides and downsides to both artificial and real trees. Anyone ever think of the pesticides and stuff put on trees?

I love the smell of a fresh tree. Down the Saturday after Thanksgiving!

i love the smell of a real tree and everything about a real tree!!.. but for the last few years i have had a fake one.. but honestly it looks just as prettY! and we get the oils from the body shop that smell like pine!! haha.. soo it still smells christmasy! which is nice.. but i woiuld love to have a real tree again.. its just the kitty cat likes to eat plants! lol.. soo she dones't like the taste of the fake one much!

Since I'm never actually spending Christmas day in my condo (my husband alternate years between my family in CO and his in OH), it feels silly to drag a tree through the streets of Manhattan up to our place.

We have friends in the country who let us go on their land and cut a tree. My Mom's talking about getting an artificial one, and my sister and I told her the day she does that will be the day she comes home to find it on the roof of the house. Nothing beats a real tree.

We always buy real. I want a fake one but my husband is against it.

We do fake. I don't believe in cutting down trees for environmental reasons. I wanted to add that if you have artificial but you love the smell of real pine, then Bath and Body Works has a home fragrance oil called "The Perfect Christmas Tree" that smells just like the real thing. You just put a few drops into one of those oil warmers, and it will fill your entire home with the smell of pine. Seriously.

I'm an artificial fan.
We always had fake trees growing up & they are so much easier.

For one thing, they last longer, we keep ours up at least a week or two into January. There is no watering, no cleaning up needles. The tree is uniform, no holes anywhere. There's no chance of it drying out and possibly causing a fire, plus you can break it down and use the same tree year after year. My boyfriend and I are using a tree that my mother has used at her house for years. She upgraded last year, so we got the old one. I love it.

Not to mention, that I'm not a really big fan of the "evergreen scent" so it's a win-win-win for me! (that's a joke from the office if anyone watches that... hehe)

I always said I would never have a fake tree. Until I got my own place and my grandpa was giving his away. It looks perfect and didn't cost me anything. Now I have to go to Bath and Body works and pick up the tree scent, then it'll feel like Christmas!

I'm gettign a fake one because it's easier to clean and you can re-use it...but I love real ones and had a real one every year at my mom and dads so I am going to miss it

i heard about someone getting a tree that has it's roots so you can get it, decorate it and then plant it - so cool!!

We have a fake tree but i think they end up looking better, although i do miss the smell. Here's my trick to make it look fabulous!:

Before putting the branches on, wrap a strand of lights around the trunk part. Then add the branches and the rest of the lights, it will illuminate from the middle and you can use less lights and less wires showing on the outside!

On real trees they put formaldehyde on them to preserve them longer. I have 6 birds and the fumes of formaldehyde is deadly to the birds. So artificial for me!!!!!

I would never be able to have a fake tree...my family has always had real ones and I will continue that tradition for my own family. Unless of course there's any allergies...

I would love to cut down my own tree but that just seems inhumane to me. For me it's pretty much like eating a pet. I feel so bad for the enviroment when I cut down a tree to decorate my living room but I can't bear to have an artificial treat. I'm really glad most of the trees that you purchase are raised to be a Christmas tree.

I take back what I said about the environment. A friend of mine found this information and sent it to me.

Fifty years ago, Christmas trees were often cut down in forests and not replaced with seedlings. But today, nearly all Christmas trees, 98 percent, are grown on farms. According to the California Christmas Tree Association (CCTA), for every Christmas tree harvested, two or three more are planted.

I didn't know this. We are always being told that we need to plant and conserve trees. So, I learned something new today. Maybe next year I'll look into getting a real tree.

I've had both in the past, but in my little apartment and low budget I can't really afford to have either. besides, i have no room to store the ornaments! But I have a little artificial tabletop one with lights and small ornaments and I always try to get a wreath from Trader Joes so I can at least have the smell.
