Dear Casa,
I have two amazing chairs that need a coffee table to sit in front of them and I am absolutely stumped as to what would work with them. I've just had the chairs reupholstered in a silver-grey velvet. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Ava Gardner

Hi Ava Gardner,
You're right—those chairs are amazing! This room looks great as is with your mirrored console and silvery taupe color scheme, so you have a lot to work with.
My immediate thought was that you should go with something round to mimic the feminine curves of your wonderful tufted chairs. Your hardwood floors are also magnificent, so a glass-topped table would be an excellent way to highlight the floors. The room also has a French Art Deco vibe going on with the mirrored console and lavish textiles, so it would be nice to echo that in your table. There's a lot going on already in the room, but in a good way, so your table doesn't necessarily need to be a statement piece, but just something that brings the other great elements of the room together.
Ideally, I'm picturing a round or elliptical glass top table with a finished metal base, with tapered legs and a French Deco feel. While you can't always get what you want, I've come up with suggestions that will get you (hopefully) there.
Cheers,
Casa

2I really think the Round Table With Ivory Inlay would look great
3Casa, you are a star!
I love all of your suggestions, I'm going to study them all in detail, I was so stumped on this as the room kept changing away from my original idea/plans and I just wasn't sure about what look I had ended up with.
Thank you!
4What gorgeous chairs. I love the styling of that room.
5I LOVE those chairs. Everyone who will walk into that room in the future will go: "I LOVE those chairs!" Great upholstery choice!
6I'd go with a dark wood round table to compliment the legs of the chairs. It would melt into the floor.
7I agree with Claire's idea of dark wood- I think the room could use something masculine to weight it down. The contrast would modernize the room and let the chairs really shine.
I'm thinking of a color palette along the lines of the Joe Schmelzer photo that Casa just posted above, with a dark wood table to ground the space, a carpet for texture, and a pop of pale-powdery-tiffany blue for contrast and to play off the silver in the taupe of the chairs.
8I made a list of some I found. . .and although I agree that they should be round or roundish, I loved the last one so I added it anyway, despite being rectangle!
9Those chairs are incredible. Where did you find them?
I'm horrible when it comes to any decorating choices. There are so many choices out there, it gets overwhelming to me. I know what I like, I just don't know how to bring it all together.
I like the vintage modern coffee table (the last one) that Casa listed, with a lighter rug. The only thing I know for sure is that the table should not be a square one. Good luck.
10I think the West Elm marble-top would look perfect!
11PJ,
They came from a shop in London. The thing is that I'm so horribly house proud, it will kill me to let anyone sit in them!
12Oh those chairs are MAG!
13I think the wood inlay table...so the room won't look too boudoir feminine...but those chairs are the best I have seen in a LONNNNGGG time!
What about a lucite table?
14You have an old Hollywood chic vibe to the room so these are my choices...
Hope it helps.
I loved the pewter table since the brushed metal accents the drapery and chair colors very nicely.
I loved the seagrass table since it sort of has it's own flair but still meshes nicely.
I liked the 3 wrought iron tables because it gives those clean lines but with a feminine feel. They're also simplistic in style yet not too plain. They also don't over power the room and take away from how gorgeous the chairs are.
15I love the chairs!
16This room is wonderful. I just turned in a research paper on Art Deco. I agree with the round table but I would definately try and find a lacquer finish. This was a famous style material used in this design era. Love all of the choices you have chosen for the room so far.
17I would actually go with a table with very straight and simple lines to let the shape of the chairs stand out. I think a Parsons-type table in a dark lacquer finish would be really interesting.
18I do adore these chairs...... Can I have them?
19i love the little mirror ones target has
20A dark wooden round table. Glass will look too cluttered. You have all those reflections going on there from your mirror and console, if you add even more glass it will look too hectic.
21Wow, i loooove the chairs too. They are so special.
22great choice of color, great room. i agree with the round suggestion, and the deco style. but i totally hate glass tables, its a personal thing, they bring me back to the eighties when the narquitectura flourished and all the tables were glass.
i would love it in a dark wood that didnt stand out to let the chair steal the scene.
These are gorgeous.
23ooh these are great options. we have a gray toned living room i need a coffee table for as well - many of these will work for our space as well. thank you!
