Katedavis sent before-and-after pictures of her bookshelf, which she reorganized after reading my post. She writes, "CasaSugar provided the impetus I needed to get up and do what I had wanted to do for a long time. Thanks!"

I think the difference is pretty stunning. What about you?

Ack...law school casebooks. I know them anywhere. Kudos for making them work fashionably! Gives me hope that I can incorporate them into my own decorating.
neat! I want to do it. Maybe next week.
Looks awesome! Is that bookcase from IKEA?
The bookcase is Ikea, and people keep telling me to get rid of my law school books, but I just can't bring myself to part with any book (what if one day I wake up and need a refresher on the Rule Against Perpetuities???).
i love that old type writer on top!
I know many people commented before about how they hate this. However, IMO this is a great way to arrange a bookshelf of books that you can't ever part with. I have books from my college days that I will not let go. Unfortunately, they're mostly a beige-ish brownish color so I can't rearrange them like this.
I have the larger version of that bookshelf, and it's equally as packed. I don't know how I'd ever live in an apartment without it. I sympathize with you on not beging able to get rid of the law school books. I still have mine 4 years out of law school and no, I've never used one. But I paid so much for them (and am still paying for them) that I can't get rid of them. Anyway, the shelves look great!
I have so many books and most of them are in boxes in my attic...I can't wait to organize them all on my bookshelf like this. I think the transformation is amazing, looks SO much better!
such a small thing but it makes the books look like decor! haha...impressive
Honestly, I like the look of the before better. To each their own, I guess.
Woohoo! Good color-coordinating!
That looks so great! I love the color-coordinated look, is it just as easy to find the books you're looking for?
I find that I remember things visually, so I'm more likely to remember that the book on making pop-up cards is with the purple books rather than trying to find where the craft books are.
YAY KATE!! the bookshelf looks sooo good. (just so everybody knows, kate's entire apartment is amazing. you should see her bedroom and her babys room)
So did you have to mess it up first, since it was probably done right the first time? LOL
thats a great way to organize the bookcase: color organization never crossed my mine. it looks fantastic.
I arranged all my books by alphabetical order. If it hadn't taken me a whole weekend, I would try this.
That's a big difference! I never thought grouping books by color would have that much of a change.

Great job!
it makes such a difference!
that's purdy!
I'm sorry - while arranging one's books by color might be pretty, I prefer to have my books actually organized by genre and author. I like to be able to find a particular book easily.
I love all the former law students commiserating on our inablity to dump our books. All but a few of mine are in storage in the basement, mostly because I think they are too ugly for my condo and too heavy to schlep to work for my office. This gives me some hope that maybe I can still use them for decoration.
When I graduated I thought that someday when I have an extra bathroom I would wallpaper the walls with pages ripped from my law books. Maybe I'll find something else to do with them beforehand. Ideas anyone?
Anyone know where I can pick up a bookcase like this?
