The Curiosity Shoppe is now selling Eames House of Cards ($35), a set of medium-sized cards designed by modern design hero Charles Eames in 1952. The deck contains 32 interlocking pieces featuring delightful and colorful images of what Eames and his wife Ray referred to as the "good stuff." Printed on the cards are pictures of "familiar and nostalgic objects from the animal, mineral, and vegetable kingdoms," as well as gorgeous textiles and patterns collected on their world travels. It amazes me how something so inexpensive designed half a century ago can have such a lasting value in the world. I think the set is a great inspirational tool for kids and grown-ups alike; it seems like something the smarty-pants, gifted students in Little Man Tate would have used. It's also just a good looking home accent, however you build it, and would make a perfect housewarming gift for any design fiend. Wish list!
