This Thursday, friends and family will gather to socialize, give thanks, and stuff themselves silly. Whether you're hosting or putting in a guest appearance, there's always a lot of preparation and work that goes into every Thanksgiving gathering.
This year my husband and I are driving from Berkeley to Whidbey Island, off the coast of Washington, to stay with his family. We're driving because we're also traveling with our two dogs (I know, it's going to be quite the road trip). Once there, we'll help prepare the Thanksgiving meal, take lots of walks in the foggy forest and on the shore, and, I'm sure, play many, many rounds of Scrabble with my mom-in-law.
My favorite part of Thanksgiving is getting to visit with so many loved ones, and to contribute to a meal, and an experience, that would be impossible without many hands. Tell me: what are your Thanksgiving plans, and what are your favorite parts of the holiday?

I would love the fabulous Casasugar to grace us with her presence. I just hope our casa could live up to your glorious expectations:)
1My family is scrabble fools too! I don't know why...but our tradition to eat dinner and then take travel scrabble to the movie theater and play scrabble until the movie starts. This year we are going to see Fantastic Mr. Fox.
This year is going to be a very different Thanksgiving for my self and my husband. I have a 43 year old son and have been so fortunate to see him every Thanksgiving of his life, it helps that his birthday is always around the date he and his family are staying home in New York this year for the first time, also I am not hosting the dinner but one of my wonderful daughters in law is, a good break for me but also something I will miss doing. Will still be cooking and looking for fun all day.
2I'll be cooking the whole meal myself for the 1st time. My parents are getting older, and I have the time, so wish me luck!
3Since I just bought my first house, I offered to host Thanksgiving dinner this year. So my parents and little sister are coming over for dinner on Thursday, and then we'll likely go to see a movie after dinner. I'm a little nervous, but since my favorite thing to do is cook, it's my favorite part of the holiday!
4I'm planning an outdoor picnic, weather cooperating. Cook it all up on Wednesday, heat it up Thursday morning, pack it in the car with the turkey themed paper plates and napkins and set off for our favorite location. Mother nature does the best fall decorating after all!
