Though I grew up in houses with wall-to-wall carpet, most of my adult dwellings have had hardwood floors, which I've come to love. What do you have in your house?

I have a mix of Pergo, wall to wall carpet and vinyl flooring in my "wet" rooms. The look is definitely worth the extra work switching cleaning techniques during the course of my cleaning routine.
We have both in our house.
My first floor has wood, and the second floor has carpet.
Hardwood in the livign room, tile in the kitchen and bathroom, and carpet in the bedroom!
we've got hard wood throughout that definitely has seen better days (before tow lil ones run around and bang it up). I'd love to redo floors, but to move everything- where? any good cleaning tips??
My last apartment had carpeting all over, which I hated. My new one has nice dark, slightly scratched-up hardwood floors all over, except for the 70's linoleum in the kitchen.
What a mean question...I have carpeting, but I really want hardwood floors! I grew up on wood floors, and the place I just moved into has carpet, my one requirement I had to give up due to price of rental.
I want wood floors, and every day bothers me a little in carpet land.
My condo now has floor-to-floor carpeting, but my childhood home has hardwood floors, and I REALLY miss them. When I move out of the inner city and have an actual home someday, I will definitely have hard wood floors, even though they are so much harder to care for in comparison to carpeting.
Even "clean" carpet is so dirty all the time. Bugs, dirt, etc. Every time a tv show does a piece about the hidden things in carpet I want to puke. We just bought a new house and we're going to tear up all the carpet as soon as we can afford it.
I would love to have all hardwood floors (right now I have a mix of both). I can't stand how dirty a carpet can get. Plus hardwood floors are soooo much easier to clean. One word: swifter!
Our living room and hallway are carpeted, our bedrooms are hardwood, and our kitchen and bathroom are tile.
We've got Pergo downstairs, tile in the kitchen and bathrooms, and hard wood everywhere else. It is so funny when the dog starts sliding around on the floors.
We have wall-to-wall carpeting throughout our apt. and we just put down pergo in the kitchen... I hate the carpet soooo much! I would love nothing more than hardwood throughout the whole living area. It's so much more pleasing to the eye and a whole lot easier to decorate around... Plus w/ pets and a carpenter boyfriend, they're always bringing in stains w/ them that are hell to get out of the carpet.
tile man
it's big in florida =)
I actually have a mix of carpeting and tiling. I live on the first floor (no more basements now I guess), so to keep it cleaner and less messy, we put down tile, and in my bedroom I put down one large white carpet that works wonders:) Though I would love hardwood floors as well
All hardwood floors in my house! ( I hate carpet.)
i wish i had all hard wood.... this is the first house i have ever lived in w/o it. i miss it so badly.
Maybe I'm weird. I like carpet. It feels nice on the feet, and you can sack out comfortably on the floor in front of the TV. I wouldn't want it in every room, but definitely the living room and the bedrooms, if I could. Unfortunately, our apartment has all wood floors. Sigh. So uncomfortable.
Apartment living- carpeting and linolium floors. Some day I'll have some hardwood floors.
porcelain tile and carpet
I have wall to wall carpeting and it is fine, but I would love to have hardwoods. I live in a brand new apartment building and it seems like only older apartments in my area have hardwoods.
We have porcelain tile in every room except the bedrooms which have carpet.
We have carpet, but in the past, I've had wood flooring throughout my apartment... and it was kinda lofty, so I missed carpet... being able to just lay on the floor and not have my back hurt. Haha.
we have solid oak hardwood floors and area carpets throughout the house except for the bathrooms......
I hate wall to wall carpet. I'm hoping for hardwood floors when I build my house.
we have both.
The house we bought has vinyl floors in every room
but we plan to put a mix of
hardwood floors and tile floors in. You can't even find carpeting in Finland so that's not an option.
We have ceramic tile in most of the house-carpet in the living room and bedrooms. I would rather have wood throughout, but that's going to have to wait for now. I have to have a vacuum with the sensor light that tells you when the carpet is clean. I don't think you can ever really get carpet clean, but I fell better about it when I know it's as clean as I can get it.
I put fake hardwood down for my first floor and the second is all carpeting. I'm holding out to win a Sweepstakes so I can get proper hardwood throughout! Come on HGTV!!!
After we bought our first home and pulled up the old rugs in the house, we vowed never again to get carpeting. No matter how many times you vacuum, you have no idea how carpets are a breeding ground for dust mites. Pull up a corner of a carpet and check out all the dirt and dust that gets trapped under it. YUCK!!
Hardwood all the way!
carpet, ceramic tile and parquet, but switching to more hardwood.
i have hardwood floors in the apt, but since it's pre-war, their not in perfect condition. i grew up in a house with wall to wall, and am pleading with my mom to get it removed (hardwood beneath). hopefully she'll come around.
because of the downstairs neighbors though, and our rambunctious pup, i may have to lay down more rugs...
eek! *their=they're
i wish i had hardwood. sadly the carpet is new, and seeing as how the owner of my place just redid the kitchen (involving much destruction, the fridge sitting in the living room, and lots of going out to eat for a month), i doubt redoing the floors is high on their list
hardwood and i can hear EVERY MOVEMENT my upstairs neighbors make, ESPECIALLY the ones that happen late at night when I'm trying to sleep.
Wait for it ... I have OLD poo-poo BROWN carpeting that my mom had put in when my brother and I were little kids. It's still IN!!! ARGH!!!
But since It's still good, I don't want to waste money on getting rid of it.
it might have something to do with the reason why I ABSOLUTLY HATE brown and beige (the wall colors).... Oh, and did I mention the old brown sectional that we finally got rid of a few years ago...
My house in Va Beach has laminate floor downstairs & carpets upstairs. My apartment in Richmond is all carpet. I like a mix of both though.
We got rid of all our carpet, tile, etc and installed handscraped hickory floors throughout the house (and oak in our kitchen). I loooooooooove it so much!
We uncovered the stunning hardwood floors where I grew up several years ago, and also had them refinished so that they are GORGEOUS. They're like new now, and have inlaid darker strips along the walls, and geometric shapes in the corners. 10000x more elegant and clean than before when we had carpeting in my room and the hall!
After seeing the comparison, I've loathed wall-to-wall carpet, and so at my new house I'm really happy with our wooden floors, despite the fact that they're not hardwood, they're softwood. They're the recently refinished original Douglas Fir floors and they're a beautiful color!
We have custom tile floors with patches of shag carpet downstairs. Upstairs is all shag carpet.
we had cork floors put in our house, which are very environmentally friendly and look awesome!!! They're super easy to keep up too. I also have Saltillo tile in my kitchen, which I love...
Our home is fully tiled. Shiny, light coloured tiles which look fantastic but are really hard to keep clean.
I have the original hardwood floors from 1890 in my home and they have been lovingly refinished and are beautiful. Only the bathrooms and kitchen have ceramic tile. Although, I want to change the kitchen to hardwood to match the rest of the house and its character.
I'm planning on hardwood floors and possibly some bamboo in the second house (the getaway/vacation home) I will be building down in Santa Fe.
i live in the middle east, which is all about marble/tile flooring. hardwoods are still my favorite, but just about anything is better than carpet.
carpet, tile and hardwood. better than the carpet and lino in my mom's house. ewww
My house was built in 1961 and I have hardwoods everywhere except for the bathrooms and kitchen. I had some lovely vinyl in the kitchen but I put down ceramic tile....much better.
When we moved into our new home we had a combo of Tile (florida effect) in the Kitchen breakfast area, bathrooms, & the entry foyer & carpeting in living room, dinning, den, & bedrooms. We also brought along with us 2 cats & 1 dog. My sister & I got so sick of cleaning the animal tracks all over the carpet that we pulled out the carpet (by ourselves!!) (btw it is really great to tear something like that up, very exhilarating), laid the proper sheets & istalled hardwood flooring into our bedrooms. I must say that was the best 2 weeks ever spent on something soo beautiful.
Everything tile!
I have standard tan carpet & I hate it , stains to easy
