Just in time for Color Theory month, Hvenbnd needs your help in choosing colors for her home! Read on to find out what she's looking for.
Hi CasaSugar Readers,
I need your help ASAP! I recently experienced some water damage to my 1942 custom bungalow. As a result the wonderful insurance company has come through and has agreed to re-install new hardwood floors in my dining room and living room, paint the entire kitchen (including cabinets) laundry room, dining room, living room and to install a new kitchen floor.
My problem is choosing paint color for my rooms! I am so overwhelmed with all the options I have been researching. We are eclectic in our tastes, and have mixed antiques and modern midcentury pieces in our home. I collect Shag prints, which are bold and bright with lots of oranges and greens. I also collect tikis but hate the beachy thing. My husband is an airbrush artist and tends toward bold deep color.

Now, the house: We have 8 foot ceilings in the living area and dining area with coved ceilings and curved walls. I am installing recessed lighting in all three rooms. The red kitchen island that sits in the dining room in the pictures obviously belongs in the kitchen and will be painted as well. The house has lots of nooks and crannies and built in cabinets and bookcases. Can you help me pick some amazing paint colors? I will post the finished result for your viewing pleasure!
P.S. I am looking for a chesterfield sofa for the living room in what I envision to be olive green leather. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

When is doubt, GRAY! It's is the lovliest, richest, most neutral color. Go for something not too dark, but not too light.
1Why don't you try pulling some inspiration for your walls from some of your favorite pieces that you plan to decorate with...I'm sure that perhaps you two could come across a color you both agree on, one that will incorporate both his desire for deep bold colors that will also go well with your furniture styles and eclectic taste. Go to a paint store together and buy lots and lots and lots of paint samples that you both find appealing and spread them out and take a look. There are tons of choices out there that I'm sure would look wonderful! Good luck!
2What about a deep, lovely purple? It would be bold and unexpected and oh so calming. Maybe even a greyish purple.
3How about a nice tangerine color, a taupe gray/ putty color and a lime green. You can interchange them throughout using the gray in between and lighter versions of the same colors. All of those colors would look great with orange and greens
4When I saw the room, I immediately pictured a muted orangy-salmon color, but in reading about your style and taste I think a medium-dark, neutral beige with a lot of warmth to it would be better. It wouldn't compete with your eclectic style or your bright feature pieces. It would also go nicely with the olive and with the right balance of brown, beige, and warm tones, it might even satisfy your hubby.
5Okay here is my suggestion: because you love brights and collect bold and bright - what about a nice fresh white paint that would make all your colors 'pop?' It might be overkill to have too many colors. Just an idea to showcase your collections and bright things. Other than that, I would choose another green in the same 'family' as your green collectible - but I do like the white idea.
6i definitely think a taupe/grey would work perfectly
that chair in the room is fab - can imagine a mixture of shabby chic with modern clear perspex also. combination of cool and cosy
