my mother brought back some batik handkerchiefs from Bali and had them shadow-boxed... I think they'd match your decor well and I've seen them online - very cheap. You could even hang them uneven, matching the flow of the stacked boxes.

Nice room but for my opinion the color of the wall is too dark . light pink is much better

i'm really into the color of the wall. i was going to suggest something similar to what jivespeaker said... that you can hang frames uneven like the boxes are stacked, BUT now that i think about it... if you have a good bit of wall space above the boxes, i think you should try hanging 3 frames or 3 shadowboxes or w/e above the stacked boxes, but hang the frames at the same level, so that they create a straight line.

A medium-sized wall hanging or picture/painting that coordinates with the feeling of the accessories. A floor plant (preferably real if you can keep them alive) with a dark, natural planter in that free area. You might want to find a new home for the vase on the top middle shelf. It is a bit different than your other items and tends to stand out over the others.

I would also go with staggered picture frames - black and white prints!

i would suggest a bronze-framed mirror. i think the bronze will go with the deep toned mofif well and a mirror is a nice accent to any room, in my opinion.

I would repeat the six square staggered pattern by adding square canvas paintings, but flip the orientation by 180 degrees, so the staggered edges meet on the diagonal.

I would put something round on the wall just because you have a rectangualr (or square maybe? table and then the boxes- i think something round, like maybe a framed mirror would be a nice contrsast!

I agree with Neekoh. A bronze-framed mirror would look really good. It would add light to the space and make it look more elegant. It's a great color!

I think the mirror I have in my living room would look great in your space (probably better, actually, because we didn't paint our walls- rental). I've posted 2 pictures of it on my page. I got mine from Mackenzie-Childs (it's not on their website though because it was not made by them). It was a bit pricey ($400 something), but they have smaller ones that are $85 each and it would look amazing if you had 2, one sort of higher than the other to accent the staggered shelves. The smaller ones are more oval shaped. They also sell mirrors like this at a store in Grand Central Terminal in NYC and they have other shapes there like rectangles.

I think a starburst mirror in the bronze color would like this in that spot.

I love the wall colors and I liked nikkih's suggstion of the starburst mirror.

I would put a really big antique looking mirror - one that has that old tinted glass look.

OR if you want to brighten it up you could take fun pictures of you and your family and friends in black and white and frame them in yellow (or other warm yet bright colors) frames and put them all over the blank wall.

You can also always go the painting route, and if you choose to do that, get a modern painting to offset the the rest of the room. It will pick up on the modern box/shelves that your friend made for you but it will also be a nice fusion with the rest of your decor, making the room more interesting.

ANOTHER idea - which is something I have always wanted to do just haven't had the chance yet - would be to get different style hooks, put them on the wall and hang different fun things from them, or not hang anything at all. or a mixture. whatever. its fun!!

I totally agree with the mirror idea. Maybe one framed in dark wood to compliment the box's and table.

I would probably only hang one larger mirror to act as a focal point. You have nice things being displayed in your new shelves... don't compete with lots of small mirrors or prints above. That would confuse the eye.

Mirrors are also a great way to make a room feel bigger and to amplify the light... If you turn overhead lights on it will be brighter, if you turn lamps on it will be more soothing and candlelight will flicker warm.

I hate to say it but I would move the boxes somewhere else. They are too casual looking for a dining room setting. I would get rid of everything on that wall and hang a huge painting (one you think is too big for the space).

I like the warm color scheme. I notice that there a few major Asian, specifically Chinese elements, so I would invest in an antique tri-panel Chinese painting or something similar replicated from the Ming Dynasty, Tang Dynasty, Ink and wash painting, Shan Shui painting, or East Asian calligraphy such as Oracle Bone Script.

You could also put in some kind of Japanese print from a period such as Edo (my favorite art period in Japan). Or you could put in a few. I could also see something like a Rothko inspired piece there to match out the nice brick color.

Most importantly it should feel good to look at and have some kind of personal reasoning behind it. You could always commission an art-piece by one of your favorite graphic designers or artists.

The mirror idea is great too, but keep in mind what it would be reflecting. There are some nice, dark oriental mirrors that would look great, or different sized mirrors and framed paintings.

Framed photos that is always a nice way to personalise and decorate. Also you might want to include some books or cute furiture pieces keep it minimal.
Make it decorative and also a focal point. Make sure you use a colour that goes with the existing e.g dark brown, burgundy will go.

At the moment there are too many things going on try and reduce. Remember keep it simple and minimal to bring out the beauty of the boxes. I Think they are a great focal point.

my only suggestion is that whatever you do - mirror(s), photo(s), painting(s) - center it on the wall (or slightly to the right of the boxes), and not directly above the boxes. that corner is already very busy, and it would create a better visual if you were to extend things outward, so that it doesn't feel too crowded.

I love the boxes and the wall color, I would put something to brighten up the space. Not a mirror necessarily, but I like the idea of a starburst there, or even something wiht mirrored elements, but not just a regular mirror.

maybe something soft to off-set the rough wall and the natural-ness of the wood boxes, like a tapestry like suggested earlier.

I love the wall color. And I really like the idea of framed photos, but I'd have to suggest sepia instead of black & white prints since you're room is so warm and accented with browns.

I think a plant would be a good thing to put there. I have a potted palm tree from IKEA that was $15, and it fans nicely to cover a whole small wall. If you set it on the ground next to the boxes, it would fan to kind of outline them.
