My closet is the most unruly area of my home, and my shoes are the worst of it. The thought of keeping them all in shoe boxes, clear plastic or not, is actually funny to me; they wouldn't last even a week. But I applaud anyone who can keep up with it. Organization Tips group member PopGal recently spent a rainy weekend organizing her shoes in transparent plastic shoe boxes from the Container Store.
She says, "Not only can I see where everything is at once in a nice, organized way, but my favorite part is how clean it keeps my shoes. I have so many pairs I love, but only wear a few times a year, so it was making me sad to see the dust build up on them." How about you?

my shoes are in a pile on the closet floor!
1i've done my best to keep all my shoes in clear shoe boxes... but in bigger bins i keep all my flat sandals and shoes because those are always my go to shoes.
2I know that I'll have trouble keeping them in boxes (original or new plastic ones). I'm trying a new technique...piles. I sort the shoes into piles in my closet (it's more organized than it sounds). Sneaker pile, work shoes pile, etc. Got the idea from my sister's roommate, who has one of those hanging closet organizers (like this thing http://www.target.com/6-Shelf-Hanging-Closet-Organizer/dp/B000NBT2PU) and stores different shoes in different levels.
3Since I've moved I haven't organized my closet like I've wanted to. But before I moved it was fantastically organized with a box for every shoe and purse. I like it that way because it easy to find. I got my eye on some really nice boxes at The Container Store for my up and coming closet organization.
4I prefer having my shoes on shelves or some kind of rack since they're more easily accessible, and save much more space. Also, it makes more sense to me because I would be able to display them and it would take less effort to put them away. Sadly though, I'm in moving transition, and most of my shoes still haven't been unpacked from my boxes.
5nope my shoes are on the shelves in our walk in closet.
6My shoes are on a shoe shelf that you can break down and rebuild in various ways to fit your closet. They look like shoe boxes but open on the end instead of on top.
7I spent more than $200 for individual plastic containers for my shoes and sandals and those bigger ones for my boots. it keeps them organized and it is easy to look for whatever pair i want to wear with whatever outfit. It is also so easy to organize them by season or color etc. It is worth a little investment but my shoes are a lot of investment.
8I should really do something like this.
9i am super organized, my closest is color coded, and i think this looks nice, but this isn't practical for me. i don't like the idea of having to open and close a box to get out and try on shoes since I put on a few pairs before deciding and feel like it would waste time. i like them out in some way, and when i'm older i'd like to have open storage built ins. i just don't get keeping shoes in boxes? i think it takes up a ton of space?
now i use pretty canvas storage bins. one for heels, one for flats, one for flip flops. i keep them stacked neatly in pairs. i have a shelf for shoes i wear daily. and keep my tennis shoes and uggs out to the side on the closet floor. it works and is clean and neat and easy to access and put away.
10let me clarify *if* i had really expensive nice designer louboutins or something similar THEN i would consider keeping those in a box away from other shoes. my bcbg shoes are just fine next to my nine west heels!
11I tip my hat to this organization! My shoe pile is one of the most disorganized things in my life so this is inspirational.
12I cover my shoeboxes in faux suede contact paper. I take pics of each pair of shoes and place them on the boxes using satin photo corners. The cost averages about $5 per box, but I don't have a lot of shoes. And the look is totally luxe and original!!!
