When I lived in a studio, I naturally always locked my apartment (i.e. bedroom and living room) door. But now that I live in a house just with my hubby, I usually leave my bedroom door wide open, unless I have guests. You never know who might wander in. If Derek Shepherd left his bedroom door open at night, I can't say I wouldn't be tempted to walk right in.

open - for the pets to wander in and out.
1Closed--so the pets CAN'T wander in and out...lol. My husband's allergic and asthmatic--we keep them out of the bedroom.
2Closed as my bedroom has the only air conditioner in the house and I like it cold when I sleep.
3Closed and locked because I don't like being woken up.
4closed- we hav e a cat that likes attacking feet that are under blankets
5Closed - I dunno why, it's just a habbitt. Cannot sleep with door open
6open so the cats can come and go. dog is kept out by a gate.
7We keep it open, now because I want to hear if my little girl wakes up (or easier for her to wander in if something is wrong)
8We keep it closed for privacy.....
9We keep most of the doors open in the house all the time... I'll close the bedroom door if the cat is getting particularly hyper in the middle of the night and insists on playing!
10Closed. I cannot sleep if my cat is always coming in and out, and walking all over me.
11Anonymous #2, why do you have pets if your husband is allergic??
I live with my sister so I shut my door for both of our privacy's sake
12I still live with my parents, but even alone i think i would close it, just to feel more secured (even if i never lock it XD)
13closed, I have 4 children and they who all love to fall asleep with there tv's on.
14Closed, to keep the cat out.
15When I lived with roommates always closed of course...but now that I live alone I still close it 95% of the time. I usually can't sleep if its open, even if its only me in the apartment. Its very strange and if I accidentally leave it open I get out of bed to close it!
When I was in high school and still lived with my parents I heard that it is safer to sleep with your door closed (and obviously to keep your children's doors closed, thats why you should rely on monitors) because of fire/fire safety. For some reason this always stuck with me (don't know if its true)
When I do stay at my parents house I still close(ish) the door. I leave it open a crack and Patterson (dog) can still get in and out fine. He just uses his nose to get in and paw to get out, but usually he walks in with me and stays there, so its no big deal.
16open in case the children need us and so we can hear them if they cry out/fall/etc.
17I felt like a bad cat parent because I closed the door on the kitties at night. Glad to know other people do, too.
18I used to always close it, and the one day I left it open I'm glad I did, house caught on fire, and was able to smell the smoke and wake up. So open all the time now.
19I live by myself, but I still leave it closed for some reason...
20Closed because I am allergic to the cats. I am fine with them except if where I am sleeping is contaminated.
21Open (for a number of reasons). Firstly, I'm claustrophobic, and the idea of a closed door when I'm sleeping makes me crazy. Secondly, I have a cat who hates closed doors, too. Like owner, like cat, I suppose.
He would scratch and cry at a closed door until it's opened
(and yes, he's that way when it comes to bathroom doors, too, when someone is inside the bathroom). My cat's behavior alone would prevent me from sleeping behind a closed door.
22closed - habit
23I close it half. If you know what I mean.
