Myth! Unless your lamp, television, or toaster has a power adapter, indicator light, standby function, or clock, it's not burning energy when it's turned off. You don't have to unplug these things from the wall. However, if you really want to save money, plug your cable box into a power strip, and switch it off when you're not using it. The reason? A cable box is the worst energy offender, using half the energy of an Energy Star fridge even when the TV isn't on!
