Anyone who has ever been to Ikea knows that it can be a very tiring shopping experience. But get this: According to The Guardian (U.K.), shoppers in Oslo will get to stay the night at Ikea hostels, so customers can have a place to crash if they haven't finished shopping. According to the article:
Later this month, Ikea Norway will let shoppers sleep overnight in one of its two Oslo warehouses, an operation that will last a week. "It will be like an alternative hostel," said company spokesman Frode Ullebust.
"There will be the regular dormitory with lots of beds stacked up together. We will also have a bridal suite, with a round bed and a hanging chandelier, and the luxury suite, where customers can enjoy breakfast in bed," he said.
Guests will be allowed to stay free of charge and will even get to chow down on the usual Ikea grub — like Swedish meatballs and cranberries — for breakfast and dinner.
I personally like to get in and out of Ikea as quickly as possible, though a trip can admittedly take hours. But apparently, Norwegians see it as a major tourist attraction, so I guess it makes sense to add dorms. Would you spend the night at an Ikea?

13Haha this is HILARIOUS!!! It brings back memories of when I was helping my boyfriend and his friend move into their new flat in London ... IKEA is like, wayyyyy out there and they went at 2 but were literally RUNNING around after IKEA announced it was officially CLOSED trying to haul bed-frames, gigantic wardrobes, etc. around. At the time, I was pissed off because I thought they could have planned their time better (typical), but now that I look back at it it was sooo funny and it would have been even FUNNIER if we had to spend the night.

Ikea is an insane, day-long experience. i'm not sure i'd want to extend that to a hotel experience, per-say... but maybe i would. i'm glad i didnt' get stuck after hours like bigestivediscut!

18Absolutely! I often want to go to Ikea, but the closest one is three hours away. Roundtrip is 6 hours, which is almost too much for one day. It'd be so convenient to stay right there. I'd do it!

22Ikea..overnight...in a heartbeat!!!! Making the two hour drive to one this weekend....can't wait....if only I could stay the night, aaaaahhhhh. I visited D.C. one weekend en route to NY and the only thing I happily saw at the time was the Ikea (before they opened one closer to me). I would do the same for the Container Store too!!!

28Luckily, there's an Ikea right here in Atlanta so I would say no. BUT if it was a couple of hours away, then I would definitely consider it. Ikea has awesome stuff!

33I HATE IKEA. The catalogs are 1000x better. You go there and it's like this big warehouse, like a Home Depot inside. It's always a zoo in there, and the bed I bought there is absolute bar none crap. We bought a better mattress to go in it and the entire bottom broke due to the weight of the new mattress. (And we are both of average size.) I will never ever buy any furniture from there again (though I might buy some home decor), and I will NEVER actually make a trip to the store again.
34Too weird. I love ikea for its lack of expensive (they must use elves.. i dont know), but ikea is not the height of luxury and certainly would not be a place I'd like to sleep in.
