I never thought I'd care about "Grey's Anatomy" star Kate Walsh's house. That is, until I saw this wonderful photo of her living room in the Spring 2007 issue of O at Home. I love the contrast of the plush blue couch against the bright orange walls.

When I read your comments I wasn't sure if I would like this at first. Once I scrolled down and saw the picture, I was convinced. It is a really nice combination of soothing and exciting.
ooh- I love it. We have our hallway painted a cantelope color to pop against some of our more yellow-golden rooms. love it!
I totally love that color--is there anyway to find out what color this is? Believe it or not I've been in search of the perfect orange shade ever since I saw a house up the street from mine that has a gorgeous orange shade I want. I just think it would be weird if I stopped and randomly asked. I might sound really odd then....
I dont like it at all. I dont think its gels well with the room. Orange done right looks good, but this isnt doing it for me.
Like it!!
I have to agree with crispet1 on this one. It's not working for me either. The problem I have with using complimentary colors is that both colors are 'fighting' visually against each other. They both want to dominate which causes a color clash to me. It's way too much for my eyes. Don't get me wrong. Complimentary colors (such as blue and orange) can work but not in this case.
I'm not sure I like it either. It's hard combining complimentary colors. It's too much for my taste.
I don't think that the two colors are "fighting" against each other. It's not like she used the color blue as much as she used the color orange. Because her other furnitures and decorations are of neutral colors, I think the blue sofa becomes an accent here. It oddly becomes the focal point of the room, not the orange painted walls.
I like what she has done here or what her interior designer did.
My hall bathroom is done in similar colors, but it looks better than this room does. But I'm crazy about orange. Love it. I think I would like the whole room more if the brown were replaced with white.
Love the color on the walls, not so sure I like the sofa at all..kinda reminds me on the 80's for some reason, maybe the fabric? The angle at which the pic. was shoot at is amazing tho
I'm not crazy about this. I think the orange is too overpowering - works better as an accent colour, like in yesterdays (or Tuesday's
) pic
I love it. Very bold. I wouldn't put it in my house, but I still like it!
Complementary colors complements her home nicely!
I love it. The colors are great together. I wish my house could look that nice.
Love the color. I never thought a true orange color like this would look good on walls. I'm more of a rust orange fan. The colors of her furniture work well to compliment the space.
I agree with gruaig_rua. Orange is such a strong, vibrant color. It makes a better accent color (which is probably what I should have mentioned in my earlier post...)
I don't mind it but I'd rather see a spicier orange like a pumpkin color.
LOVE it! It looks like an Hermes box, especially with the chocolate brown wood trim.
I love it! I wish I could do something like that in my house (we move too often to be painting over and over again).
Wow, it's so bright! I really love the orange color.
Actually, it looks awesome for somebody whose taste is eclectic. However, I wouldn't want that color on my walls and of course, never to be matched with a big accent of blue. It's just not "me" nor "us". My husband and I are both creative people and although want something refreshing around the house, the color -como of blue and orange is just not "us" But I absolutely love the throw pillows.
The only thing I don't like is the design on the square pillows. I'm not sure what would look better, but I don't think they flow.
I like the colors but i don't like the decor.
It looks like one of the rooms at Elvis' Graceland.
i dunno if i could do orange walls, but the contrast with her couch is really pretty, i love the blue!
I like the orange walls, but not with the blue couch. When I was younger my Mom's room had orange walls and her bedding was blue...so, I'm having a bit of an 80's flash back, I suppose!
Never in a million years would I have thought orange walls would be appealing, but this is great! Love the couch, too.
I love the orange walls, but I'm not a fan of the blue couch. In the room or anywhere, really. Just not a fan of the couch, I guess.
I usually don't like orange but this is stunning!
I think it's beautiful but I wouldn't do it for my home.
i love orange walls and orange as a colour but thats a pretty bright orange.
pretty, rich and vibrant. Thanks for sharing!
I hate it, but I think it's awesome that she knows her unique style and uses it rather than decorate her home like everyone else's.
I love it! She's unafraid of color and I love it! She ain't the first person to paint the walls in her house that shade of orange. My grandmother did back in 1973, and her kitchen had that same color, and no she wasn't the first either. There were probably others too.
My mom has the issue this is from and the rest of her house is gorgeous!!! Her bedroom is the perfect shade of apple green. Her home is pretty much my dream home. I especially love the black lacquered moldings. She said in the article that they painted them black in one room, but she loved it so much it's now all over the house.
I love the couch but HATE the walls. Orange is too bright for me. It would work a lot better if I lived in a warmer climate.
I like it. May not have the guts to do it, but it really does look nice. Kudos.
I like this! We painted bright colors on the walls of our house - each room a different color, which helps a smaller house look larger and more interesting. No orange here though...hummm, something to think about!
