My lecture hall days may be over, but I'm still loving the industrial schoolhouse aesthetic of this office styled by Canadian magazine editor, stylist, and decorator Margot Austin. From the galvanized metal file cabinet to the linen grain sack pillow, every item seems to have a history. The black/metal desk and sunburst mirrors are a bit more contemporary, which keeps the room from looking too much like a dusty old library. Add some messy piles of paperwork and a MacBook and this room would work for any college student or work-from-home professional. To get the look, read more.

Hi, Thanks for including my work! Just wanted to pass along 2 shout outs to go with. One is for the fab photog who took this pic: Daniel Harrison, danielharrisonphotographer.com. Second is for STYLE AT HOME (styleathome.com), the mag where I work -- did this story for the 2009 trends story. cheers,M
1MargotA,
Love the look -- utilitarian with an edge! I might brighten up all the metal, though, with an accent (or two) of color.
I really like the file cabinet and sawtooth blades on the wall. (eBay or Craigslist finds? Where did you locate them?)
I'll look for your feature in Style At Home.
2it's really awesome, i wish i had a room like that when i was in school...definitely would have made studying more enjoyable!
3MargotA,
4You're welcome! Thank YOU for your beautiful styling!
@MargotA: I LOVE this. I've been brainstorming a look for a home office, and this encompasses exactly what I want. Do you mind telling me what paint color you used? It's amazing! If I lived anywhere near Canada, I would definitely work with you on my house
