Part of being a grown-up decorating diva means ditching the framed Van Gogh posters in favor of actual art. But if you're anything like me, your desire to hang original artwork arrived before you could afford to buy it. In the interim, might I suggest this Personalized Wall Mural? It costs just $199 and lets you turn any personal photo into a over-sized, one-of-a-kind piece of wall art.

Though I'm not crazy about PBTeen's example — to me, posed photos of friends are better suited to small frames — I love the idea of this service. The web site lets you upload any digital photo — say, an artful snapshot from your travels or an old family photo in black and white — then reproduces it on a 6-foot by 4-foot canvas. The whole process takes just two to three weeks. Just make sure the photo you're using is high-resolution, or otherwise, it might look blurry when blown up. What photo would you chose for your wall mural?

I have always wanted to do this, but I am hesitant because I don't want the picture to end up blurry. (Like Casa states.)
I have some really cool sunset pictures that I would love to make into a wall mural.
1Very cool.
2I wouldn't buy a photo mural for my home decor. I perfer photos (artistic or not) matted and framed. However, I'm sure I'll find some exceptions. I guess it really comes down to the photo and how it will go with the rest of the home decor.
3That's pretty cool!
4Another great source for affordable, original artwork is Etsy.com. I'm addicted to Etsy! You can find some really great art on there, all handmade and not mass-produced. I bought a set of three abstract prints on canvas for under $100, and everyone asks me where I got them.
I like this idea a lot. I have so many pictures from my trips to Europe -- any one of them would be good. I'm not a fan of people pictures much either, especially on that large of a scale. That would scare the crap out of me that early in the morning.
5This is very cool! I think I would do a uniquely done photo of my hubby & I.. not really a photo like the one shown though. I don't know how to explain what I am saying LOL!!! I saw a pic of Carmen Electra & Dave Navarro done of them and it was beautiful, a little sexy though. I would want something like that buy not quite soo sexy as I don't look nearly as good as Carmen does LOL!!!
6I don't like it. If it turns out ugly then I don't have anyone else to blame but myself.
7Probably not around my house with that mural. I'd rather have them framed or in scrapbooks. If I want to display them that enormous, I would like to have them like "photcrazed" (www.photocraze.com) ---like an artwork.
8I print my computer graphics to large formats and that is just great way to present them
9I had an exhibition of my graphics printed even larger than the photo here.
ANd I must add.... I love this light blue detailed room
I would mind doing this with some of my vacation photos - the sunset over the beach in Maine, that sort of thing.
10I would put a stylized photo of my family...like a black and white turned into a lithograph or something like that. Then add a dash of color, like to the background, flowers in the photo, etc.
11I have a huge one picture similar to one of these on my walls. And I've always thought about doing it for one of my houses.
12I think for the room they have on display, the surfer picture works. But I would choose a landscape snapshot I took. I do like this idea and I might look into getting something like this. Perfect for a birthday party!
13I've seen this before in a magazine. They used a vintage black & white print, which looked great. I'd love to use one of my black and white Rio de Janeiro vacation pictures, but I'm worried that the resolution isn't good enough.
14Very cool. I'd probably use this one since it's one of my faves.
15This is a bold statement and a great price for such a large piece. I can see how it could be fabulous in certain situations. I was thinking of a beach picture from childhood on a beach house wall. I think it would be more effective and fun in a very casual setting such as that.
16books and shoes that's a great photo to have it blown up in a large canvas, but my personal take on this is it depends on the photo maybe I'll pick something abstract art. It could be like the focal point of the room.
17I love it! it is so stylish and cute!
18I love the idea. I might just do that. I have a picture of my three cats standing together looking at me out of our glass sliding door.
Oh by the way, I love the picture and the room looks awesome. Did you do it yourself?
19This is something I would love to do. Although I'd probably opt for a smaller size canvas.
Books and shoes would look amazing in black and white. So cute!
20Love, love, love this idea. You can also make a collage on ofoto.com, also super cute and a lot less expesnive (i think around 30 for a poster sized collage with 100 pictures).
21I really like that. I sometimes think large portraits are a little egotistical. I am not sure what would I want one of them. Perhaps a photo of my dogs?
22too teenager for my taste ^^
23Not my style.
24I love it -- though I must admit that I would be tempted to make it a b&w pic of my puppy.
25That is so hideous. An art photo-maybe, a family/friends,dog photo-incredibly cheesy.
I second the Etsy suggestion. I've bought some really amazing prints from there.
26Question for all- what would be a good resolution for something like this?
27I would put a picture of my dog Ricky! He's on my checks, he might as well be a mural on my wall!!!!!
28wow. cool idea
29Wow! What a cute idea.
30I have this amazing sunset shot from my cruise to Mexico. I think I'd use that. Too bad I don't have my own place and am generally strapped for cash at this point.
Vienven,
Nice find with www.Photocrazed.com, it looks like a cool way to get authentic personal canvas art. And they are able to do styles like Andy Warhol and Comic. Very funky and retro!
It looks like they just launched a new website.
Thanks for recommending it!
31Oh I love this. ! have some great butterfly shots, I could do this for tmy kids playroom!
32i love this! i would deff use one my sunset photos from hawaii which always inspire me!
33I love this look for your beach house or vacation home, it just seems too big for an everyday home. It would be nice to look at while you're away.
34I would LOVE to put up a Warhol-esque picture of my dog. (I don't care how cheesy anyone thinks it is. My little guy deserves to have his likeness turned into art!)
35Thanks Vienven for your recomendation....I checked out Photocrazed.com, very unique art. I was trying to figure out what I could do with my photos....making my photos into art you can't beat that. I was also trying to match the artwork to my crazy color pallet and they are able to do it. I owe you big on this recommendation photocrazed.comthanks again. Oh by the way I saw they have a refer a friend deal, something like if you recommend your friends you can get free art if a bunch if your friends purchase. We should all get together and sign up for this and get some free art. I know I can get a bunch of my friends to order this fabulous art....I did.
