To keep your garbage disposal smelling fresh, take half of a lemon and pop it into the disposal. If you do this monthly, it'll help prevent icky odors from building up, and keep your sink, disposal, and kitchen all smelling fresh. I've found that using a lemon that's already been juiced works fine as well.
If you already have an odor issue in your disposal, try using half of a lemon followed by a handful or two of baking soda.

Do you need to cut it up first? Or can you literally throw the whole (or half) lemon in?
1I do this all the time.
I cut mine up first - just because I'm paranoid about breaking the disposal lol.
2also boiling water down the drain now and then helps keep the pipes clean. So next time you make tea, boil extra water and after you've poured your water for the tea, pour the rest down the sink. (just be careful of the steam).
