Here in California, it's usually a good idea not to decorate above your bed. At the most, some soft textiles or unframed art is best. No one wants to get bonked in the head during an earthquake! In other parts of the country, though, it's easier to hang framed art, or even store books, directly above your head. At my house, the headboard is centered in front of picture windows, which are covered with bougainvillea, so I like to think that the view makes up for the lack of artwork or decoration. What's the view above your bed?

3a pair of pretty inexpensive mirrors, they look heavy/ornate but are plastic so i dont worry about earthquakes too much

5The best thing to decorate over your bed is Wall Slicks, wall decals. They look like painted stencils, but are so easy to apply (and remove). This would definately be a safe option for those in California concerned about earthquakes. See http://www.wallslicks.com for all the designs in 39 colors.
6We have this metal wall art thing from Pier 1. It's this sunburst/flower kind of shape, so the pointy ends made my husband nervous at first, having it right above our heads. But it's very secure, and it's a nice, affordable way to add some visual interest to that wall.

8Nothing. Our bed is placed directly in front of the brick chimney, so no hanging anything. I've come up with a great headboard design though. Hopefully we'll be able to scrape together enough funds to build it!
9We have a large painting of a ship on the ocean right now. When we redo our bedroom, I'm hoping to salavage some window shutters. I've seen a lot of cool designs using old painted shutters - the one I'm thinking of doing involves hanging a curtain rod and sheers, and putting some kind of low lighting behind it.
10I have framed picture of cash over mine.
