Some friends of mine grew up with two giant Newfoundlands, whose favorite activity was swimming in the family swimming pool. It was pretty darn cute to see the hairy dogs splashing around in the pool, but as you can imagine, the family had to clean the pool a lot! Would you let a dog swim in your pool?

omg yes!
when we had a pool at my childhood home our golden would actually cool off when we weren't there and take a few laps around. when we were swimming we would set him up on his own raft and he would float around all day with us...he was sooo happy! dogs LOVE to swim, and i LOVE my dogs--so I would never take that away from them! I wish I had still had a pool for that reason!!
we did have to clean up a lot of hair--but it was no more of a hassle then the ridiculous amount of leaves in our backyard...so no biggie!
1my lord yes - it's the best way to tire out our 3 year old boxer. So worth any extra cleaning.
2Yes, as long as the dog is A)supervised and B)knows how to swim. If it can't stay afloat, it needs a lifejacket. I doubt Zena would go in willingly. She's not a big water dog.
3i have cats. i wish they would go swimming in my pool!
4from my experience with dogs- you don't have much choice
5haha x
i don't think there's anything wrong with this as long as they're well trained.
Disgusting! Do they shower with their dogs too, and eat from the same plates? Seriously.
6No, too much hair! Plus, my dog has skinny legs and doesn't swim all that well.
If she wants to cool off, I'll take her to the lake behind my house!
7If you have a water dog, like any of the retrievers, good luck keeping them out of the pool!
8Yep if I had one! And that picture is awesome!
9I would, but I wouldn't be offended if someone else told me they didn't want my dog in their pool.
RoaringSilence, I have never taken a shower with my dog, but I did have him jump into the tub with me once.
10ummm...RoaringSilence, you don't HAVE a dog, do you?
Would you allow kids to swim in your pool? B/c guaranteed the kids are peeing in it. A dog won't do that.
11We used to let our St. Bernard swim in the pool, until she tore the liner! $1,000 later....she has a plastic kiddie pool : )
12I have a long haired german shepherd and a collie shepherd mix. The collie shepherd HATES water, so we have no trouble keeping him out of the pool. The german shepherd has never gone in the pool either. I think it's because we got him in the winter, and the pool was closed, so as a puppy he was always walking on the frozen liner. We managed to train him not to go on it, so I think that's why he has never tried to go in the pool when it is open. Plus, oh my goodness I can't imagine how much hair there would be.
13i say yes but.. my parents have a swimming pool and their dogs arent even aloud to be in the area of the pool. i remember when i was growing up every now and then one of my dogs would jump into the pool... that would make my mom soo pissed!
14yep
as long as it had dog friendly steps so it could get out easily and unaided!
if I had a pool I'd insist on those from the start - cause I know I'd want my dogs to swim in it
