According to Title 4, Chapter 1, Section 8, (d) of the US Flag Code, the American flag, "should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free." But Austin's Hotel St. Cecilia has used Old Glory as drapery on hospital tracking here in a bedroom suite, and I applaud the look. To me, a flag displayed nearly anywhere (so long it's in one piece) looks patriotic. 
But some of you — and the authors of the code — may disagree. Then again, there are plenty of tiny US codes and laws that I don't follow (oops), so should this one matter? Tell me your thoughts below. Do you approve of this use of the flag as drapery? Have you done something similar in your own home? Or are you against it?

I lean more towards your side, Casa. As long as it doesn't violate any of the code, then a Flag can be a nice, patriotic decor item.
1i don't like it. it's like using your wedding ring for a napkin holder. these items symbolizes something and i think it's disrespectful to ignore that.
2While I really love the look, I don't like the idea of using an actual flag. Our flag has a history and is incredibly meaningful. Maybe I'm biased --- my in-laws are retired Army, our entire family works in the government defense industry supporting the military and my dad served in the Army --- but it just seems wrong to use Old Glory in that manner.
3In Dominican Republic you get in a heck of a lot of trouble (serious trouble) if you ae seen using the flag as something other than a flag (ties, beach towels, home decor not specifically as a flag). I don't know, just seems odd to me.
4My husband (former Marine Corps) fought, and has had friends killed, for that flag. While I'm not big on telling others how to display the flag, I hope most have the respect to treat it properly, and not use it as a curtain.
5I think this works! People where pants (although I don't advise this look) of our flag to show their patriotism...it just boils down to people wanting to put their own stamp on being patriotic.

7There's a difference between wearing clothing with a flag print and actually wearing a flag. I think we've all seen our share of old men in flag-themed swim trunks on the the 4th of July, but I would be incredibly upset if I saw anybody come out actually wrapped in a flag.
I agree with the other posters--the flag has a rich history, and thousands of men and women have fought and died to protect that flag and everything that it stands for.
If you want to have flag draperies, I would do something like get a vertical red-and-white striped fabric and have a valance of white stars on a blue field. There are ways to honor the flag in your decor without demeaning it.
