TeamSugar member Ashley moved into her first house seven months ago, and wanted to redecorate her bedroom to reflect her taste and personality. She decided to use Carrie Bradshaw's blue bedroom as a guide for making over the boudoir. And the best part? Ashley says that "using existing furniture, bargain finds and DIY I spent very little."
To see how she changed the look of the bedroom, read more.
Ashley used Benjamin Moore Electric Blue paint for the wall color, and scored the white lacquer desk for $100 at the Pottery Barn Outlet. She noted that it had a couple of nicks, but she was able to cover them with appliance paint. For the art, she bought inexpensive photo frames from the dollar store and the craft store and sourced art through cheap prints at sales, and even printed some with her printer and photo paper.

"Basically I plotted out the major pieces I wanted and scoped out bargain décor stores, linen sales, or thought of a DIY way to make it happen," explains Ashley."It only took me about a month and with my existing furniture and the projects I spent less than $500, linens, curtains, paint, vanity, table, and all misc décor items. "
I love the change that Ashley made to her bedroom, and her cheap and chic makeover proves that you can accomplish big decorating changes on a minimal budget. Definitely check out the gallery for more views of her smashing, very Carrie bedroom.

V.I.K
this is such a phenomenal makeover, SplAshley!! i'm loving everything about it. i watch a ton of home makeover shows on HGTV, and the results always seem to be so generic. this room has so much character. GORGEOUS!!
1Really nicely done! Just last night I finished painting my walls a similar blue color, just a tad darker. I've never had a room with vivid color on the walls so I was getting a little nervous, but the pics of your new bedroom really make me feel like I've made a good choice.
2Incredible re-do. I especially like the light fixture. Was that a DIY project? If so, how did you do it.
3Stay tuned, because Ashley provided me with the DIY instructions for the light fixture. I'll be running it in the next few days!
4Jealous? Why yes, yes I am.
5I'm in the minority here. I prefer the before more because I find the blue paint too oppressive in that room. Generally, I like the color blue, but in this case, I think it's a matter of too much of a good thing. JMHO.
6Your room looks amazing! I love all the extra touches you did and that you were able to do them on such a small budget. You have amazing talent and ideas! I would have never picked such a bright blue for the walls, but after seeing what you did, it makes me change my thoughts on the color. GREAT JOB!!!
7I really like the Before version, but the After version is phenomenal! Very well done!!
8Ahh I love it!
9Wow, it's sensational. I do love CB's room in SATC- before and after. I like the before here too but the after really blows me away.
I always thought blue would be a cold/masculine colour for a bedroom but it's really amazing here and looks fantastic.
Going to have a better snoop through the pictures now and try to keep my green eyed monster at bay!
10I really like the different sized photo frames above the bed too
11Lovely!
12Nicely done!
I'd love to see pics of the room too when all the lights are on
13Btw, cool light fixture!
So beautiful, I'm so jealous! I cannot wait to see how she did it.
14WOW! that looks so fantastic! I love the bright blue, it improved the room 200%!
15Very cool - I love the dark wood dresser.
16The dresser I used was actually an Asian/Eastern style from Pier One that I had already- It had these round brass pulls and I replaced them with glass and silver "diamond' shaped ones- very glam- you cant see it in the pics- but it made the dresser look completely different- the dresser is a bit wider at the bottom and I was surprised that the pulls alone made it so different.
17Wow the room really was dreadful before. I like the transformation!
18You did a really great job with the paint job, very impressed! I have a similar idea in mind for my room, but using orange and a huge b&w photo. I just have to find the right photo.
Well done chica :0)
19And I don't quite get how people like the before ... no offense to Ashley, but it looks like it came from the 60's era. The after is much more chic and sophisticated!
20wow
21No offense taken the before was the realtor picture from the house listing before i purchased it- the green paint was not my choice and I changed it soon after i moved in- I actually just got the bed as part of the house purchase all the decor in the before was the staging stuff
22GRRREAT blue!!!!
23Hmmm not really my style.
24I love it! I really want that comforter...where did you get it?
25Looks really good!! Love the color and how the dark and light accessories go so well with it. And I have to say your bed is beautiful! Where did you get it? Is it black or a dark brown? Great job!
26The comforter is Nautica I got it at Home Goods- I can't remember the style name but I loved the grayish purple color of it- I will try and find the name and post it
