I love searching garage sales for furniture finds, and these bedside tables are a great example of the kind of diamond-in-the-rough treasure you're likely to find at a sale. While these bedside tables are pleasant, they're definitely not spectacular — at least not yet. They do, however, have clean, modern lines, and definitely show potential.
To see how these tables were updated, read more.
To update the tables, Sunset first removed the drawer handles, cleaned and sanded the tables, and applied primer and several coats of paint. If you like the color, try Benjamin Moore’s high-gloss Bunny Gray paint. I particularly love how the tabletops are decorated with a chevron pattern. The entire cost of the project was less than $40, and took a weekend to finish. Inspired? Try making them yourself, including that awesome chevron pattern on the tabletops, with these instructions.

I love them after!
1I love the color!
2Very nice!
3SO cool. I need to troll these sales, flea markets & antique shops to find cool stuff like this. I don't mind fixing things up!
4I'm in the minority here. I like the before more. It had more character, in my opinion.
5I agree GlowingMoon. They were quite fetching in a Danish way before and now run of the mill.
6I definitely liked them better before. They look plastic and cheap in the after.
7I'm not a fan of the new color.
8love the transformation! as anyone who has been to my apartment knows, i'm a big fan of painting furniture.
9I like them much better before, too.
10I like both ways, but I would have picked a different color for the tables...not sure what color though.
11With all these before and afters for furniture, before I click on it, inside my head I think "I bet they painted it white..." and again this proved true.
12I like them before they were painted, because I think the grain in the wood gives a piece of furniture it's character.
13the instructions link isn't working for me..
14I like both, the zigzag look on top of the white ones is quite funky!
I think the before ones are great too. And though people may thing painting white is boring and an obvious choice, for some items it really is effective!
I had a bamboo bathroom mirror of my gran's and I've just painted it with white gloss. It's gone from a horrendous mirror which I'm not sure where it would've fitted into a cute country cottage shabby chic look which I adore.
15This trend with painting real wood is tacky and cheap-looking.
16These are fab. They are not really my style but they are gorgeous.
