The Garden Primer by Barbara Damrosch. Before you start planting, invest in some reading time. You can check books on gardening out from your local library, or try a garden or book store in your area for beginning garden texts.

I love Barbara Damrosch, and her partner the organic farmer Eliot Coleman! They used to have the greatest show on the Learning Channel called 'Gardening Naturally' - I lived for Saturday mornings!
1I started my own "victory garden" last year! Unfortunately my neighbor's cat destroyed it before it got very far. Better luck this year!
