The Ralph Lauren Architect Floor Lamp ($600) is a chic, classic, and polished design that's ideal for the traditional homes of those cable-knit-sweater-wearing women. I find it très élégant with its rich red mahogany, and I love how it references the three-legged design of a surveyor's tripod. And, while I'm sure it's a very sturdy and high quality, I couldn't bring myself to spend 600 smackers on a floor lamp that's not a statement piece (this guy's more of a filler). Luckily, I found a more affordable alternative. To see it, read more.
The Wisteria Wooden Tripod Floor Lamp ($249) will cost you less than half the price of the former lamp, and it's equally chic. It's natural teak wood base gives it more of a casual vibe than the mahogany, but I tend to see few really formal homes these days, anyway. This lamp adjusts from a 35.5-inch height to a 58-inch height so it can alternate between a table and floor lamp. Beat that, Ralph Lauren!

Nice find! I like the darker color of the Ralph Lauren, but the price difference makes up for that.. I still don't think I could spend that much on a floor lamp.
1I like the cheaper one better!
2Interesting, I like it!
3I love the darker one, just because I have expensive taste. The more cost effective one is nice though. I would buy it.
4I like the cheaper one better, too. I mean I can clearly see the quality in the expensive one but the cheaper one is a little more relaxed, would go great in my apartment!
5I made a lamp just like that. Bought a beat-up, vintage camera tripod off of eBay for $20, added a $15 barrel shade from Target and a $10 lamp kit from any hardware store. I now have a cool, casual, one-of-a-kind lamp that always gets noticed for less than $50. (My inspiration was a high-end store that was selling them for $1000!)
6I don't care for the style at all.
7Hi Riff, I'd love to see photos of your DIY lamp! Can you add them to our Su Casa group?
8Happy to. Check 'em out: http://teamsugar.com/user/riff/album/2941079
9Love this!
