I love the mismatched chairs around this Saarinen table in the home of Virginia Johnson. It's quirky, but it works because there's not much going on otherwise in the way of color and pattern in the room. But, I've seen this look executed in busier, brighter rooms, and it doesn't always work. Do you have mismatched dining chairs?

Nope. We only have 2 chairs because it's just my hubby and I but they both match. They didn't come with the table but they fit with it perfectly!

I don't think it works in this photo. I like it in some restaurants I've been to where all the chairs look really neat and old and vintage.
"I don't think it works in this photo." I was actually going to say that too but I didn't want to sound rude.
Oh, I hope I wasn't rude!
I just think this doesn't look intentional. It just looks like you ran out of chairs.
Mine all match, but mismatched could work in some settings, I suppose.
Oh no I don't think you were rude
No, I actually just did a dining room chair reupholstery project and am kind of sad I didn't think to mix match. I love the look of different vintage chairs all painted the same color.
No. My dining chairs are unusual in shape. The matched grouping brings out that quality (in a good way).
Nope, I prefer more unity for my dining set.
Yes, I have never really been into sets or things that fit too perfectly together. I mismatch everything.
I live in an apartment with myself and me and I, and our two cats, so we only have two chairs, and they didn't come with our table, but they match beautifully. If we ever need more, then we might go with things that aren't so matchy.
yuk, hate that look, all or nothing for me man!
No, but I want them! I have a friend with a bunch of mismatched chairs, all painted blue except one that's painted yellow. It's so cute!
But I do like the mismatched look. If we have guests, we'll end up with mismatched chairs.
Ewwww
does anyone know where the pendant/chandelier is from? we had one in our house in the 70s... until we moved in the late 80s... believe it or not, I'd love to have one.
We did have a nice set of 4 chairs (matching) for our dining room table until my brother rocked back on one and broke it. He took it back to his house intending to "FIX IT" that was 3 months ago. Now we have to roll the office chair from the other room, and the boys inevitably fight over who gets to sit in it. Brothers.. priceless.
I have had this oriental fish bowl since 1996, I finally find a chair that I adore, note i said one chair, and i bought it, since, it just my daughter and i can i purchase maybe 2 leather chairs that match, or should i purchase a pull a solid (color cream & black design) from this chair...I really love this chair and i cannot find another one.
the chandelier looks vintage to me Sandra, but I think IKEA do similar 70s 80s origami style lamps, at least last time I looked!
btw I love the mismatched chair look, it just takes the edge of matchy-matchy interiors. Also it's a great way of dressing down a rustig table, to prevent your room from looking to much like an old farmhouse. But I love eclectic interiors in general, they seem so much more personal and creative to me!
oops, that's rustic of course...
