For me, setting the table is a little like getting dressed: I won't be caught dead wearing the same thing two days in a row. I like to switch up my dinnerware, napkin rings, glasses, table linens, and menu (of course) each day. But sometimes I tire of my tabletop "wardrobe" and sometimes it's just laundry day. When that happens, I look into my real wardrobe for some alternatives. For this little breakfast nook, I decided to use a cotton scarf as a tablecloth. It's nothing fancy, and the shape isn't perfect for a round table, but it's just breakfast! I think the houndstooth check pattern has a sort of updated Italian ristorante vibe, don't you?

is that a decal or a stencil on the wall? It's amazing...
1Sounds creative! It would have to be one of the larger scarves, though. Yes, I notice the stencil/decal also...kind of peculiar!
2love the scarf...totally ties everything together! its looking great in there!
3keiren63 and littlemzfit if you go back a few days in posts casa has a whole post about the decal/now a stencil....very interesting what she did!
4looks cute!
I did something similar for New Years eve. I had a black and white theme and since my dining room table is square and you can't find square table cloths (at least I can't lol) I folded a white bed sheet to use as the cloth and I then used a black silk wrap that has a burnt velvet floral pattern and fringe as a table runner. A crystal bowl filled with black and silver ornaments, antique silver candlestick holders with white candles finished off the "dressing" of the table.
I love using items from my closet for table decorations.
5kimpossible, sounds really nice! Have you ever tried TJ Maxx for square tablecloths?? I sometimes see them there and they always have cute ones!
