I just came across interior designer Eddie Ross's makeover of a beautiful secretary he found at a New Jersey consignment shop, and I couldn't help but share it with you. The Chippendale style of the desk with its graphic grille and shapely top facade is very elegant, but the reddish mahogany veneer was very dated. So, Ross decided to make it over with a fresh coat of his favorite paint, Farrow & Ball's All White, and a mirror fit for behind the grille. To see the transformation, read more.
I'm really impressed with this project. The mirror gives it a contemporary polish and the white paint makes it youthful and not so stuffy. Head over to Eddie Ross to hear the steps he took to transform this wonderful secretary.

Beautiful!
1Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous. I love white painted wood. When my grandma died I kept a lot of her old wooden furniture which is of no real value. Painting it white and doing it up is definitely something I intend to do when I get my own casa!x
2Absolutely gorgeous!
3That is so nice.
4That chair complements it perfectly.
5I love this. My furniture is made up of ugly pieces with pretty lines painted white.
6Eddie is the KING of furniture makeovers. And this is one of his best yet! He is such an inspiration
7It looks stunning.
8I like it, except the white. I think it would have been nicer is some other color.
9Very pretty. My parents have an identical secretary, it used to belong to my Grandparents, it's one of my favorite pieces of furniture in their home. It will one day be passed down through the family, I love the idea of that, that my children and their children will inherit pieces like this.
10I love it. I like how he didn't alter it too much.
11Holly crap, it's beautiful! I wouldn't want #1, but #2 rocks. Want to come do my home Eddie?
12Wow! I was so prepared to not like it because the "Before" photo is so horrendous, but it really turned out fantastic!
13My current M.O.: never underestimate the power of a white coat of paint. I love the simplicity, and Eddie Ross ever fails to surprise me with simplistic and insightful ideas.
I was kind of worried that there was no way to work around the trellis-y doors, but WOW. This is so classic
Thanks for the awesome post

Wow- we have an almost identical secretary that my hubby bought from an antique shop. As is, it fits well in our living room but it needs to be refinished due to some damage. I am torn because I also love how it looks in white- which would fit perfectly in our sun room. Fantastic job. Gives me something to think about.
15Wow, that looks amazing. I love white wood.
