1Speaking of pets, this is also a good option for those with pet birds. Most commercially available carpet, fabric and air fresheners contain nasty fragrance oils that can kill birds almost instantly so natural solutions like lavender or lemongrass are the only way to go.
2I do that and then my kitties come, smell it and start rubbing their little bodies on the carpets probably saying in their mind "om my goodness, mom got rid of our smell, fast, fast, put it back"!
