Home Away From Home: Gwyneth Paltrow's Fave NYC Hotels
The Carlyle
Paltrow calls
The Carlyle her "favorite big uptown hotel [ . . . ] very grown up and old school." I'm going to venture out on a limb and call this one my all-time favorite, too. Walking into its glossy marble-floored lobby, you get the sense that you're in a true New York landmark, and I am always overwhelmed by its refined taste. The Carlyle has been graced with a legendary roster of decorators including Dorothy Draper, Mark Hampton, Thierry Despont, and Alexandra Champalimaud. And even with contemporary updates, its handsomely and richly appointed rooms exude timeless beauty.

The Mercer Kitchen is by far the worst restaurant I ate at last year when I was in New York. Do not be fooled by the hype. The food was tasteless and dry. The waiter told us to order this chocolate cake for dessert and he said it was big and "oozing." When he brought it out it looked like a cookie and tasted dry and old. There was no oozing of anything. In fact it was so ridiculous I could not stop laughing for about half an hour. Just trying to save ya'll some money.
