Over Thanksgiving weekend, I spent some time in Joshua Tree, CA, with friends who've built an eco-friendly house there. These friends love their peaceful home and amazing view (which goes on for miles with nary a house in site), but they also miss the comforts of city life. While I sometimes daydream about living in a place as remote as my friends' home, I doubt that I would be able to hack the extremely rural reality of this life for very long. Do you ever long for a home at the edge of the civilized world, or are you a city gal at heart?

absolutely!! (the only thing I might miss are gourmet supermarkets).
I want to live in the desert with enormous velvet black skies at night. You can't see stars like those anywhere near a city.
of course, going sailing accomplishes the same thing on a less permanent basis, but sailboats get a little stuffy after a while.
1I love the idea of the occasional getaway out to the middle of nowhere, but for everyday living, I'll take my citified conveniences
2If i had the money i would be long gone, would not miss a thing! i crave to be there in the middle of nowhere!!
3I would like a small town living, not fully isolated but more of a place where everyone knows everyone...(keep dreaming gabiushka)
4I live in the country, and love the isolation. It's peaceful and relaxing. Sitting out on the deck at night, the stars are so beautiful, nothing blocks the awesome view. I used to be a city girl and I admit when I first moved here, I missed the conveniences of city life, but country living grew on me and I wouldn't change it for anything. I'm a country girl at heart.
