The former New York State estate of Brooke Astor, a beloved American philanthropist and socialite who passed away last year, is on the market for a whopping $12.9 million, according to Real Estalker. The sprawling 1927 stone mansion, designed by architect William Adams Delano, measures in at 10,000 square feet, with 13 bedrooms and 9 full and two half bathrooms. The property description reads:
At the heart of this bucolic 64.60 acre haven, the 1927 stone manor designed by prominent architect William Delano embodies the quiet elegance of a classic English country house. There are 6 marble fireplace and 13 bedrooms, including staff quarters...Indoor and outdoor pools are featured along with extensive dependencies including a greenhouse, 4-bedroom gardener's cottage, carriage house and barn.

Casa, the estate is called "Holly Hill", the town its in is Briarcliff Manor, NY. Its about 5 mins from my house, in the posh neighborhood where you'll find celebs, artists, musicians, authors, and Trump International Golf Course, not to mention home of the "Show Us Your Guns" segment from an early SNL segment! Not all the homes are as extravagant as this, most are modest but still carry insane price tags -- yearly taxes on a modest house are probably the same as what you could purchase a home for in other parts of the country, crazy! The views of the Hudson River around here are amazing, and we're just up the road from historic Sleep Hollow and next to Ossining, home of SingSing Prison (see "Breakfast At Tiffany's" for reference!)
1Wooooow. It's breathtaking. But if I wonder if Ms. Astor has any penthouse properties available in NYC. I'd love see pictures of the interiors and let my mind wander of what only could be wished for
2Thanks, Punk Glam Queen! My mistake.
UrbanBohemian, you can read about Brooke Astor's NYC duplex, which is on the market for $35 million, here.
3I like that staircase.
4nothing broke Ass-ter about that mansion.
5I didn't even want to look. But I did and it's fabulous and the price sounds like a steal for that much land alone in new york.
6I love the genteel classic decorating. Got some ideas about placement, and I might give the wall mural idea a re-visit for my dining room.....
