When I lived in the snowy Midwest, I always kept a kitchen window herb garden during the Winter, and also grew alfalfa sprouts in a jar. Having something green in such a snowy part of the year kept my spirits up, and also added flavor to my cooking. Do you grow herbs or other edibles indoors in the Winter?

I don't really know how to do this. Do they need a certain amount of light or anything?
1I don't have enough light for this. Luckily I can still grow some herbs outside in the winter where I live (parsley, chives, cilantro, rosemary). the oregano and sage die back a little if it freezes, but rebound quickly. the basil died out as soon as it started getting cool at night.
2I haven't yet but I was planning on do so this year... mainly to help with the grocery bill, fresh herbs cost a lot!
3I'm trying to, but my rosemary's dying.
The leaves are turning brown/black and drying.
