Craftster member Summerswann has a talent for seeing a diamond in the rough. Such is the case with her recent secondhand acquisition, a library card catalog. She writes, "While at my very favorite thrift store I spied this section of vintage library card catalog. It was very stained and faded, as if it had been sitting outside for years, but for $7 I knew I had to have it!"

She took it home and gave it a good cleaning and sanding. To see how she adapted it for her home, read more.
After staining the card catalog, Summerswann added four mid-century modern-style metal table legs, and now has an inexpensive and very cool coffee table for her living room. What a great upcycling project! I'm always so inspired to see people creating beautiful things on a budget.

I love the idea. Not so sure about the legs, but all in all - it looks great.
17 DOLLARS??? What a steal! It looks great!
2I love this! It looks great and it's perfect for storing things you use frequently, but don't want just sitting out.
3wow, i'm impressed. very nice.
4love this
5I'm so jealous of that seven dollar price tag! Where I live they're popular so it'd run me at least ten times that.
6We have CD cabinets that look like card catalogs, but they were kinda expensive.
7I LOVE that. I've been wanting to repurpose a card catalog for a while because I worked in a library and find them cute and a little nostalgic.
8WOW. Jealous!
9that is really neat!
10Cool find!
11i agree w/leene and i'm not sure about the legs (i think i would have preferred wood ones)... but this is FANTASTIC and what a great idea!!!
12for 7 dollars I would have bought it even if I didn't know what to do with it
13Totally impressive. I am jealous of your ability to see beyond the intention of product. AND, you did a fabulous job fixing it up!
