Some communities have ordinances against certain paint colors, and others wish they did after the fact. I personally think that anyone who owns a house should be able to paint it as they please. Some of these New Jersey residents, however, would disagree with me.

as long as they can afford the mortgage they can paint it how ever the hell they want.
I think its a bit too much of the color in one place. A similar thing happened in Salem, MA when a family painted their house clementine orange, but they have rules about house colors so the neighbors took action. Surprise for them, though, that color was historically accurate to the time period of the house.
I think it would look nicer with a contrasting trim or something
It's too much. It brings the value of the other houses in the area down, plus it's ugly.
Blech
The color is gross, but it's their house, they can paint it whatever color they want.
Not what I would do to a 200 yr old house, but if anyone tried to tell me what color I could paint my house I'd be inclined to tell them what color they must paint their car or dye their hair. Afterall, if they're going to be seen in public near my house it could detract from the neighborhood if they don't blend in.
Who wants to bet that tourism picks up for the area now that they have a huge Fuschia house in the area? It screams of marketing scheme, especially since this is the owners second residence and they have a gift shop...genius!
I said other. I think it looks tacky. It would look a lot nicer if they painted the trim and fence a more neutral color (or at least one easier on the eyes).
I can see why people might have a problem with it-- it's an eyesore to a lot of people and it could lower other people's property values, and it takes away from the historical look of the town. It's probably especially annoying considering the owners aren't actually residents of the town, but just vacation there-- people tend to care less about a place in such a case.
I definitely sympathize. My neighbors just painted their house BRIGHT Barney-Dinosaur purple, white, and mustard yellow. It's truly horrific, but of course there's nothing we can do. . .
I would be aggravated if my neighbors painted their house like that, but we don't have restrictions on house colors etc in my neighborhood or town, so there's nothing to be done about it.
i don't agree that it's your house you can do whatever you want
there are rules and social norms
it's not fair to your neighbors to have to look at ugliness and like someone else said, it brings down the value of the other homes
If there are no existing rules in the area, I'm afraid they can do what they like. I agree, it's awful and I certainly wouldn't choose that, but it's no different than people wearing crocs or uggs with mini skirts. It is ugly and stupid, but they have a right to that..it reflects on their personal taste (or lack thereof)
I care less about what color your house is than how well its maintained. Some jerk in my neighborhood has trash all over his yard and peeling paint and broken shutters. His house is MUCH more of an eyesore than this one.
and while I think this is ugly, I cannot believe that one brightly colored building detracts from the value of other homes in the area. house prices are based on comps and one weird house shouldn't screw up comps. plus that house is freaking huge so if it sells at a low price, it still wouldn't affect the prices of smaller homes (it wouldn't be a comp for them).
If there was a home for sale across the street of a home painted this color (or similar revolting color) would you buy it? Probably not, and many buyers would be put off by it. So if the sellers had to lower the selling price to get rid of their home that would DEFINATLY bring down the comps and more importantly the VALUE of anyone's home in that area...
I'm torn. I like bright colors, I think they'll get used to it - but I do think it's kind of sloppily done, and given that the people don't live there full time, I think it's un-neighborly. I read and interesting thing about neighborhood demographics and brightly colored houses.
I think it's a silly color, kind of looks like it was a part of a Dr. Seuss book, lol. I don't think other people should have an issue with what color people decide to paint their house... they're not living in it! It would be fine with me if thats what they wanted, they need to love it.
it wouldn't bother me. I like that they did the door green and I think it was good that they did the gutters and fence in the fuschia as well otherwise I think it would have been too much of a contrast (unless they'd left the fence white). But as long as they keep it up it would be fine with me. I'd rather live next to that and have it be clean and kept up than next to a white painted house and have it be trashed or in dire need of a new paint job.
I don't care. Regular house colors are boring, too neutral and too safe. I'd be glad to see something like that where I live.
It is over the top, but I still think it is cool, and at least it is something different. It sure gets boring seeing all the houses in a neighborhood look almost exactly the same!!!
Such a marketing gimmick - probs for the gift shop. I love the colour - if only it could have been less tacky. They could totally have done it carribbean style with a different trim and it would have been ok. This is just an eyesore.
I think it's disrespectful to the house. It's a 200 yr old home, it doesn't deserve such indignity, it's no longer a teenager trying to live rebelliously. Let the old house be white and serene in it's olden years, out of respect for the life its lived.
it's the kooky old lady who dies her hair bright orange now.
It's loud, but some good landscaping could make it bearable. I think the house is just screaming at everybody right now because there's nothing but the house to look at. Like every good outfit, a house needs accessories.
This is America, if you want a bright pink house you can have one, and if somebody has a problem they can shove it.
WHAAATTT!!! It's my house that I paid for with my hard earned cash and I can't paint it the color I want??? If it's a well kept house how can it possibly lower my neihgbours house value? I Curacao there's actually a law that says you're not allowed to paint your house white!!!! It's the truth, Google it.
What kind of fool would live in a house that color other than Barney or Prince? If they lowered my property value I'd lower their property value, that is for damn certain.
Puddlesworth, I feel sorry for your neighbors. . .
I am absolutely offended by the color, I think it is hideous. Have some respect for your neighbors, who more than likely dont agree with you and your lack normality. Toda my neighbor painted his home ELECTRIC YELLOW and it is horribly bright along with the matching glow in the dark stop planes in the air porch light. It may be their home, which it isnt its a rental and only part of a 4plex, but they arent the ones looking out their front window looking at it. I spend 2 or more hours in my yard daily working with plants flowers and veggies to make it nice for myself and those who pass by, to have all my hard work and countless amounts of money spent in my yard to make it nice taken away because I myself nor any of my other neighbors can even look at the new paint. These people have no class, on top of the horrid color their yard is riddled with trashy old couches and mattresses and other crap. Myself and my neighbors have worked too hard for too long to beat the graffiti problem and take back our neighborhood after foreclosures and gangs had tried to take over. Please do your neighbors a favor and be respectful in your choice of paint for your home. Thanks
