If you're sitting pretty like Blair Waldorf, your designer stilettos are neatly stacked in your custom closet. But, if you're more like Yours Truly, your ballet flats are piled up like Legos and plastic trucks in a kid's toy box.

I store my shoes in large long clear plastic storage containers that fit neatly under my bed. I get the large ones because then you can fit more than one pair in each box. This way you're not tripping over your shoes in your room. Given I can't store anything else under my bed but at least I don't fall flat on my face during the night.
I have a thing that goes over the door--not a bag though, it looks just like Blair's closet there. I also have a "shoe tree" as my boyfriend calls it. It's a 3-tier rotating shoe rack. My boots are lined up in the closet.
I have plastic milk crates in my closet and some of my shoes are piled up in them, usually the ones I wear the most. Some shoes are in their original boxes and some are in a hanging shoe storage.
i keep 4 shoe racks in my closet and most of them fit on those, a few that I wear like daily just sit on the floor in front of the racks.
We have two rows of wall mounted shoes racks going right up to the ceiling! We got them from ikea and they cost next to nothing and were a doddle to put up (and look just as good as Blair Waldorf custom shelves!). But ive got my eye on one of those shoe wheels! Im sure you have mentioned them before. IMO this is the coolest shoe storage out there now:

You can even grab them on ebay!
i have a designated clost only for my shoes they are stored in their boxes and labeled with color and shoe description
I have a set of clear plastic boxes with handles that become like drawers when you stack them together. I wish I could remember the name. You can see the contents and easily get out just one pair.
on the floor racks. I had to do some serious shoe-purging when I moved to a new place back in August and downgraded the size of my closet tremendously. But all is well, since I'm left with the best of the best of my shoes and the ones I actually wear often --- which means no more random piles of anonymous shoes, but nicely stored and organized shoes that are easy and quick to get to.
I've got a bunch in a shoe-shelving thing that's taller than me. A couple pairs that I wear all the time that I kick off into a pile by the front door. And I pack away seasonal things in a bin in my closet, right now the flip flops and sandals are going in and the boots are coming out.
i have them in boxes from ikea...they're like nylon, with clear doors that have velcro on them...they come in packs of 4....
I have them in their original boxes, some under my bed , some in a cupboard near the door.In the future I ll have them in my closet (well, when I ll have a bigger closet).Question : do you clean your shoes before you store them back in the closet??
I keep my pricier shoes in the boxes. Everything else is lined up neatly at the bottom of my closet or in a hanging compartment bag.
Boxes for the expensive ones - lined up in my closet for the others.
Boxes, clear and original. The ones I wear regularly are on a small shoe rack and lined up on the floor. I wish they were neat but my son loves my shoes and frequently plays with them.
Similar to her closet. But not slanted. Flip flops on a canvas hanger, boots hang.
After sitting out for a day to air and dry out, which you should do all the time with real leather shoes, they go back in their original boxes (usually with the packing as well to help keep their shape) and then on several shelves in the closet with pictures of the shoes facing outward. I am starting to think that I am going to need a bigger closet for my shoes soon, but until that days comes I will start stacking the boxes along the floor. (I know it's a little insane but I am an engineer ... it's just the way I am programed)
I need to find a cheep way to store them because thrown around doesn't really work for me.
As much as I would love to have a huge closet with custom-built shoe racks I live in the real world, so I keep my shoes on metal racks from the Container Store. I posted on my blog about how I solved the problem of shoes slipping off the racks. See here http://www.shebanghome.com/2008/10/problem-solve-2.html
I have some in boxes, some in a hanging compartment over my door.. and others laying on the floor of my closet. I'm currently trying to collect shoe boxes so I can have ALL my shoes in boxes neatly stacked on the floor. Its something I saw somewhere & loved the idea!
i have those nylon shoe storers that hang on the pole in your closet. it's okay... doesn't take up too much room, and you can see all your shoes at once!
