Home theaters have almost become a requisite for Americans building mega-McMansions, and they're quite common in the homes of the Hollywood elite. Personally, I just find them excessive. And since going to the theater is one of my favorite pastimes, I'd never give up popcorn and Slurpees in favor of a leather La-Z-Boy, even if ticket prices are well above $10 these days.
Woody Allen, on the other hand, favors the home theater. When recently asked by New York magazine if he still goes to the movies, he said, "I don’t, because I have this [gesturing to the screening room], and so it’s much easier for me to call up and say, 'Can I get a print of The Women sent over here?' and I can just come in here with a couple of friends on a Saturday night and see it." What are your thoughts? Would you have a home theater built if you could afford to?

I've been planning on it since i was a kid. I always dreamt of having my own personal theater.
Im a huuuuuge fan of them, and i'd probably still go (i mean, come on IMAX!!) to theaters because the odds of me having a Woody Allen status and being able to get whatever movie i wanted in my theater are rare. Either way, my apartment is classic hollywood theme'd and im planning on transferring this to my future home theater... love it.
1$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
2If I could afford it, maybe. But if I was that wealthy I always told myself I wouldn't go over board and buy tons of things I don't need. So, maybe I would have a small understated one, and I would use DVDs (or blu ray or whatever) instead of actual film movies!
3it doesn't appeal to me at this point in my life~ i love going to the theatre and the cinema
4I'm a total film nerd, but I'm also all about style and modesty, and I think that usually home theatres are overboard and tacky. If I had the money, I'd just set up a comfy couch with a decent-sized TV and dimmer lights. That'd do it for me
5Nah, I don't go to the movies. I don't really care about seeing a new movie. there are so many old movies I still need to see. And i can just wait for it to come out on dvd. I like having a good media system; hd flat screen tv with good sound. but i dont need a theatre. i like my couch!
6I definitely would. Especially after going to the movies and having this kid, in the row in front of me, vomit at a pivotal point in the movie!
7I would love to have one.
Though I'd prefer some couches and bean
bag chairs over theater seats.
8I actually like the thought of a home theatres! Being able to see a (new) movie from the comfort of your own home just spells awesomeness for me
9Why not? If I was rich I would have a home theater. I'd much rather watch a movie in the comfort of my own home over having to deal with going to the movies. The tickets are overpriced, it's always cold, the seats are uncomfortable, the viewing angle is always awkward, the food is overpriced and disgusting, you have to deal with other people talking, etc... You can't take it with you and you can only give so much to charity. If I had the $$$$$$ I'd be living it up.
