Having original artwork in our homes is really what completes and matures the look, and keeps our interiors from looking too staged and cookie cutter — even if we've got the same West Elm furniture as our neighbors and friends. But, unless you're an artiste, acquiring artwork can get pricey. Buying prints is a great alternative, if you can't afford one-of-a-kind pieces.

I have original artwork and photographs by "unknown" artists, as well as a few prints. But mostly I have funky thrift and flea market artwork, whatever appeals to me -- whether its an album cover or original painting, or even textiles -- winds up on my walls! I actually have vintage clothing on two walls, they are far too pretty to hide in the closet! (Tip: if you hang vintage clothing or textiles, make sure they are out of direct sunlight so you don't get fading.)
1I have original animation cells and some of my own art work.
2I have a few pieces by friends, both paintings and sculpture. Most have been gifts. Such nice friends.
3I have the first three! I have an amazing original piece by a San Francisco artist named Hilary Williams, then a large oil pastels piece I did (and several of my smaller ones, too, a series of original black and white photos that I love, and a set of block prints from the 50s of various simple city scenes of San Francisco. THEY were an awesome find!
4We're lucky; my hubs and I are both artists, so we do a lot of art trades with our friends. We have quite a collection now!
I also want to recommend going to Open Studios events in your local area. Most larger cities hold them at various times throughout the year - it's a great way to connect with local artists and buy pieces directly. The art is usually cheaper than gallery prices, and more money is making its way to the artist. Plus, you get a sneak peek into those awesome studios!
5I have beautiful prints from my friends and oil paintings from my mother. i wish i was talented, but at least i have friends and family that are
6My father in law is an artist and he recently gave us two BEAUTIFUL pieces of New Orleans street life. They're absolutely amazing. And make me so nostalgic.
7Yep:) I have an original Warhol print and a few japanese woodblock prints that are also unique to the artist. Love them!! Problem is when people see the Warhol they just assume it's some print enlargened, bought from some generic store.

12I have some amazing blown glass pieces by a local artist that I love. They are so psychedelic and beautiful and colorful; I could look at them all day! I also have a few rare Pearl Jam concert posters. I know that sounds lame, but any PJ fan can tell you what a commodity these can be.
13I'm a huge Disney fan, but the original artwork is too pricy for my budget currently. However, I did pick up some vintage Disney albums on Craig's List for $20, and got some frames - and I'm really impressed with the results!
14Oh, Berlin, SO JEALOUS about your original Warhol.
I'd *love* to own an original artwork by Basquiat or Keith Haring.
I have several original artworks by accomplished Vermont artists: Phoebe Stone, Dug Nap, Katherine Monstream, Mary Azarian, and some Bread and Puppet Theatre work.
And, of course, there's a boatload of my own artwork.
15My dad is an artist, so my house and the houses of our families have many originals
