I've long been a fan of the West Elm Cable Rug, due to its plushness, muted gray or ivory color, and its modern look. But, I've heard that the shag rug has a terrible shedding problem, and I worry that it'll go out of style fast. So, I'm delighted with the new West Elm Chunky Plaited Wool Rug ($119-599), which looks equally soft, is offered in the same muted gray or ivory, and is notably modern. It's not exactly a timeless piece, but at least it's not a "trend item" like shag rugs these days. You usually see plaits on a J. Crew sweater, so I find it fun and fresh to see them on the floor. What do you think? Like it?

I LOVE! We have laminate hardwood throughout our home with no rugs (yet) in the bedroom. These would be great, one on either side of the bed, for the cooler winter months.
1It looks like a nice comfy sweater! I do like it.
2This is a great variation on the usual cable/shag rugs I see all the time. I like it.
3I have the West Elm cable rug. It sheds TERRIBLY. And my dog has ripped out the cables numerous times. I don't know how my times I've had to get down on my hands and knees and re-thread the cable yarns. I love this braided sweater rug, but I wonder if it has the same problem.

5I like this, especially against the dark wood! It does look soft & warm & cozy.
6I love it, but would it pill like a sweater?
7Rag rugs are great for the bathroom but really they are so 70's . Check out these alternatives
