For some, flying a flag in front of your home is an explicit display of your national patriotism, and for others, it's simply decorative or just a social gesture. In any case, whether you fly your country's flag, a nautical one, or that of your favorite sports team, they do add a certain je ne sais quoi to your home's curb appeal. Do you fly one?

Our flag was one of our first purchases for our new home.
1I would fly a flag but our apartment doesn't have the setup to let us. At my last apartment I put out the U.S. flag on national holidays (and Election Day) and the Irish flag on St. Patrick's Day.
My grandmother was known in her neighborhood for her flags. Her house sat back on a hill on a well-traveled street, and she had a big wide porch, so on special occasions she put out a U.S. flag, an Irish flag, a Missouri state flag and the flag of the city of St. Louis. She did it for years and my cousin, who lives there now, still does it. If we have enough space in our next place, I'll do something similar. I just have to find out if the city I live in now has its own flag!
2I have flags for everything. The holidays, seasons and sport teams.
3We fly the American flag all of the time (we have a spotlight for the evenings) and the SD Chargers flag on Sundays
4I don't fly the flag and there is a good reason why.
I don't have the time or energy to properly care for one at the moment, and just ask my partner, temperama, nothing steams me more than a mistreated flag.
I can't stand to see flags flown that are ratty, in need of repair or retiring. I can't stand to see them up in the rain and weather. I've actually gone into businesses and informed them of flag faux pas.
5I would fly the stars and stripes if my apartment building let us. But they have a rule about flags and other things on our balconies.
6At home, we have a flag that is used for special occasions, like national holidays, funerals and that kind of stuff. We don't put it up for all holidays, though, but the "biggest" ones, like the Constitution Day etc. There are rules against keeping it up all the time, though (in Norway, at least) - if you want to do that you'd have to use a pennant with the same colors.. Not a lot of people I know do that, though, mostly just our neighbours.
