Two of my good friends just returned from a European adventure, and since one of them is an architect, they snapped a ton of photos of architectural elements. I was particularly taken by this patterned floor, found in a building in Slovakia, which I initially thought was wood. It's marble though, and absolutely gorgeous at that.

Have you been inspired by architectural elements on any trips you've taken?

Oh yeah just recently I stayed at a really nice Disney Resort and the building were so colorful and they had Swans on top of them. It was gorgeous.
1I still marvel at the architecture from my trip to Spain. I haven't really been able to incorporate it into retro shabby chic home in the country though.
2this isn't exactly an architectural element, but I always end up snapping pictures of people's laundry in Italy. The way they just drape things out of their windows makes sheets and towels look so beautiful. and i SWEAR they purposely try to match their laundry to the color of their house! And if it's not a match, it's a contrasting but coordinating color.
3I find myself doing this so often that last year I made it a point to create a series of photos with small, architectural details (I'm always attracted to doors, windows, etc.).

4This is gorgeous. The craftsmanship is craveworthy for sure.
