Growing up, I diligently practiced Mozart on a spinet piano, which was compact enough to fit snugly in a corner in the living room. My mother-in-law practices Rachmaninoff on a gorgeous grand piano by a picture window that overlooks downtown Seattle. While we don't have a piano in our home, I'd love to get one. I settle for playing Tchaikovsky on an open-holed flute instead. Do you have musical instruments in your home? If so, are they a part of your interior design scheme?

I always love having an acoustic guitar around -- not a huge piece, but it adds such warmth and a sense of creativity to a room. I've also got my roll-up keyboard prominently displayed on my desk for whenever inspiration hits. It adds a cool, graphic element, too.
1Yes, a vintage Wurlizter piano I played as a kid. LOVED it! Now 2 of my kids suffer through lessons until they EVENTUALLY appreciate it. Not, really.
My son thinks it's cool that he can play since he found out that a few of his friends also take lessons.

3Yes but it's not part of decor. I've played the Cello for eight years and it sits in the empty room on our second floor until i decide to get it out and play a little hehe
4Do plastic Rock Band and Guitar Hero instruments count? I have them hanging on my brick wall. I'm hoping that someday they will turn into real instruments
5We have a multitude of instruments lying around. My husband plays flute, french horn and guitar, while I play cello and am preparing to take harp lessons. That's a lot of music in one tiny house!
6My piano takes up half my living room, but I wouldn't say it's part of a decorating scheme, I just like being able to play whenever I want.
7no
8Sadly, they're not allowed in my building. I'm longing to have a piano like the one I had when I was little
9Well, we have turntables, a mixer, drum machine, sh!t that makes music, 808, WALLS full of music...and more music stored at my mom-in-laws... not really 'instruments' so to speak.. but definitely music making! (It's so overwhelming I'm still trying to figure out how to display all of it.)
10Growing up, we had a nice baby grand piano in our house, but no one played it, so I'd say it was strictly for decoration. We have a few guitars now but they're not really part of the decor.
11Both of the yes answers. At any given moment we may have guitar(s), a mandolin, and an accordion lying around. We also have my childhood piano in our living room.
12Yes, my husband is a musician and we have more guitars and amps than i can count and tons of other stuff.
13I have my mom's spinet piano that my grandfather bought her in 1960. I took lessons on it when I was little and now I have inherited it! I love it!
14We dont, our space isnt big enough, but I'd love to have a beautiful piano, and eventually I'd love to take lessons on it.
15Keyboard, violin, DOUBLE BASS (it's bigger than a person!), electric bass, 2 acoustic guitars, 2 electric guitars, trumpet, banjo, mandolin.
16Our house is a home of music, though it really isn't part of any decorating scheme! We have 8 guitars, a bass, drum machine, drums, accordion, xylophone, harmonicas, and whatever else gets dragged in.
17No. My husband wants our bedroom to look like a jazz lounge, with red walls, vintage jazz posters, and musical instruments on the wall. I say hell no to that. Especially since he won't let me go swing dancing anymore.
It could work in a small, intimate living room and I'd be open to
that...but not where we sleep.
18I'm so happy you posted this! We have tons of intstruments: piano, organ, keyboards, electric, accoustic and bass guitars, even a didgeridoo ... and (too) many others. That being said, we haven't the slightest idea how to display or incorporate them into our home. If anyone has photos of how they have done it, I would love to see them. Music is quite literally taking over our house.
19I play my banjo all the time. Sorry, neighbors. It is lovely, and I would hang it on the wall if I weren't always rocking out, Deliverance-style.
