German designer Susanna Hertrich's Chrono Shredder is "a hybrid between calendar, clock, and waste-producing automaton," that has no on/off functionality. It runs unstoppable for 365 days until it has continuously shredded all of its calendar pages, which are kept on a paper roll. The paper is fed through a hacked paper shredder, which is programmed to use exactly 24 hours to shred one "day." The device reminds us not only of the day, but of the passing of time. So, on Dec. 31, you'll have a big pile of shredded paper that is not simply waste, but actual evidence that time has passed. Hertrich created Chrono Shredder to target would-be future hibernation obsessives, to remind them that while they sleep, something tangible is happening. The design is not actually in production. Would you like it to be?

I think it's a cool concept. I would buy one if it wouldn't cost a small fortune.
1umm weird.
2It's a great art piece. I wonder if it's loud.
3It sounds interesting, but the photo on the left scares me a bit. What if I leave for vacay and boom when I come back, totally jet lagged and plagued with exhaustion headaches, I would find a huge pile of shredded papers all over the floor. I think I'd break the thing.
4i love it! if i had room for a big pile of paper, i would jut leave it there. maybe put a basket under it to catch all of the paper.
5i love the idea but all the paper would have to go somewhere, maybe like vinnie said and just put a waste basket underneath
6i think it's a great idea! very nicely designed too. plus all the shredded paper could be used to line gift baskets.
7The proficiency of my work has increased due to - Modern designs which blend into any office environment. - All models of shredders accept stapled documents.
