Flea markets and thrift stores can be a treasure trove of mismatched china, which could lead to trouble depending on your level of impulse control. One too many "Oh, this little dish is too cute to pass up!" and next thing you know, you've got boxes of quirky plates without coordinating mates.

That's why I was mesmerized by this wall I snapped at a Northern California diner. The quirky patterns look so serene, mounted on the seafoam-green wall. What do you think of this idea? I loved it so much I never wanted to leave. The diner did something similar with mismatched mugs on a shelf. Curious about this curiosity? Then read more.

how nice! I like the plate idea. Very creative.
1Love that! I am enamored with dishes. I love to go through HomeGoods and look at all the random plates. That is a great idea for where to use them!
2you can do it with old records too.. if I ever get my husband's dj area organized we have this one wall I want to do that with (with records)
3You obviously haven't been inside a Flying Saucer bar, They have plates all over the walls.
4Oh cute..
...I obviously do not hang out there. That's like a boring place I've been dragged out to every other year.
5How adorable. What a great idea for a way to bring a few splashes of color into a room!
6That is cute! What do you use to hang plates on a wall, though?
7My friend had a full set of beautiful Pfalzgraft dinnerwear. After her very bitter divorce she couln't stand looking at it so she donated it to the Goodwill. (Can you imagine walking into Goodwill and finding a treasure such as that??)
Now, when she sees a plate she really likes she purchases it and adds it to her collection. You never know which plate you will get but they are all beautiful!!
8Super cute! Hey Casa is this in SF?
Just wondering if i have another cute diner to check out.
Also, the interior paint color reminds me of this amazing restaurant in SF called Weird Fish. It's more of a scientific, nautical vibe and I obsess how I can translate it into my apartment every time I'm there. Here's a link to Yelp review, but the pics don't do it enough justice!
